Glowing weapons

You're the one looking for "OMG GRITTY REALISM" in a shooter with a hyper realistic caricature artstyle in world where it's even possible to "buff" a gun in the first place. One of us is extremely confused, and I don't think it's me.
Nope. I'm looking for a flowing art style when talking about this particular aspect. We have a gritty looking, "used" look to brink...I beleive that was even a quote from a developer. So what the heck is a shiny, blinking golden gun doing in that world? Its completely off, doesn't fit. My gun is just going to start blinking cus its more powerful? Really? Now a good idea would be to go the route the resistance guns did...enginutiy...why not have your enginner call out "I rigged your guns up with better ammo". Not "I washed them down with shiny gold paint"...it doesn't fit.

I find it amusing that he (Anarchy) complains about childishness when referring to video games, where the absurd is normal and even blood and gore can be wacky and fun. It is...interesting, to say the least.

At times but not in a shooter...not for myself and not for the group I'm currently representing. "Wackiest" thing we'd like to see is a ragdoll crashing through a wall at mach 8. If I wanted a childish game I'll look for one...and I would seriously hope Brink wouldn't be childish with images of intense warfare, anarchist and strong fisted enforcers. That doesn't sound childish to me but the way its shaping up...yup, this games turning out like a childs dream, perfect for all those 12 year olds...I feel halo's demographic changing already May 10th. I don't want that, I can't imagine anyone would.

If it's true that nobody else can see the glow but you, then yes, I would prefer some other method of knowing that my gun is buffed. But at the same time, I don't care overly much one way or the other. It /could/ be somewhat distracting, but until I try it for myself I shall reserve my judgement.
Reserved are you? You seem to be pretty opinionated in the matter despite your best efforts.

Like the OP said "With all the HUD there must be another way than making your awesome customized weapon glow like an enchanted sword from some RPG right?" Especially when it serves no purpose to your team, enemy or yourself other than now you have this giant glowing pulsating gun in your face.

Agreed. This again leads me to an indicator in your HUD and lettin epople see you have a buffed gun is another matter. I find that slightly offencive because i know some very intellegint and mature 12 year olds out their. Im questioning the effect of the gun when playing. In some games when your gun gets biffed you can barely tell the diffrence,

Well, the last time I saw a buffed gun it was in the Container City gameplay, which is ancient at this point. Who's to say that they haven't dialed it back since then, or changed it completely? I'm judging, yes, but I'm not giving my "final answer," as Regis would say, until I try it for myself. But yeah, I don't mind saying that I'd rather not have a distracting golden glow around my gun when I need to shoot at people. The golden-ness I don't mind, but the shimmer could potentially be an issue.

But like I said, they could have fixed it since then. It's been a /long/ time, after all.

not really, if people have mic's (which they should) they can just callout for a buff.

It's a pretty jerk maneuver to punish people who could care less about mics/have broken mics.

The gun will glow for the rest of your lifespan, and the glowing will stop only when you have respawned. Then an Engineer will buff your gun again.

Some people find that distracting and unrealistic.

I really don't think you guys are understanding my posistion. I'm REALLY not here to bash on Brink, I still hold out a lot of hope for this game but I'm struggling with some of the last bits of news I've heard, gun damage, speed, glowing sparklys. I mean, I still have the game resevered, I'm replying with a bit more personality and opinion than a Troll whos out for laughs...I want this gam to be awesome...but I don't want another Halo.

I just got off the phone seconds ago with a friend of some of these issues and I defended Brink by saying I still have to play it before I absolutely know or your "final answer" as you put it. But like my signature now says to emulate this, I've fallen too many times for hype and hung on ever breath of a developer before and have sorely been disappointed. I didn't for Fable3 and I haven't for Brink...and what we have is my resulting personality you all seem to resent yet the Fable group respect (odd how that works out) but there you have it.

I wouldn't be here if I didn't care about this game. Now one I would bash is Gears but thats a long, long story.

And thats what I'm very much worried about. If Brink does instill a team based enviroment, there will be plenty of engineers out there ready and waiting at the front to buff your weapon. Which means the majority of the time...you're gun will be glowing. Lets say you're kicking butt...you're gun is glowing for the whole time you're out there.

Cartooney is one thing but a glowing gun for 75% of the battle...is a bit much.

Mic's are only used for friends and unlocked in later levels. (confirmed)

I don't think you have to worry about Brink being another Halo, but it's definitely no CoD or Battlefield either. Sort of a happy medium between the two, I'd say.

without a mic, there is no communication, which effects proper teamwork mechanics and after all this a team based objective mode game. unless you join a deaf clan or something.

i find it pretty silly people can buy a $65 dollar game but can't afford a mic. gl with mind reading.

ugh gross. All that customization and cool looking everything goes to waste when I see a single glowing texture of the outline of what the weapon should look like. My love for the games art style just completely went out the window with this stupid glowing gun thing. Weird how almost none of the video's show this in action at all, its almost like they were hiding it... but why hide it when they can just rework/take it out if they didn't like it?

i read this and laughed because i thought you were being a sarcastic smart ass to the OP, then i realized you were the OP, and facepalm at how stupid of a post i had just read and you really opened my eyes as to just how far people will over react. i dont much like it, but its not a game breaker to me, so i will just be happy with the awesome game they are giving me, from amazing customization, a revolutionary movement system, a 2-sided story, team oriented game play,to a new genre of combining multiplayer and singleplayer, and im not about to throw that all away because of a glowing gun

Brink reads our minds for us. Whether you have VOIP on or off, your character will automatically say certain things based on what he sees or needs. Low on ammo? He'll yell at the nearest Soldier to give him some. Incapacitated? Every Medic on your team will hear you request their services. Mic or no mic, teamwork, at least basic teamwork, will work just fine. Which is great because if I'm talking to anyone it'll be just my friends and that's it. Having the randoms on my team still know what I need, and being able to know what they need, is a great feature.

+1 MatthiasK. :celebration:

I've been telling these people ALL DAY that they are complaining about the most minor aspect of the game.

good point about VOIP Mad Hatter, but still a mic is an essential part of playing team based objective games. The game isn't going to explain every situation for you and your teammates.

You're trivalizing actually one of the most important aspects of any game though, what you actually see in your HUD. It could be the greatest game in the world but if I'm walking around the world with a blind fold over my character's eyes, it doesn't really make difference how great the game is. You're going to be looking through your characters eyes 90% of the time you are playing this game. Some people think that a gun (that takes up 25% of the screen) is going to be a pretty pivotal aspect of said HUD and if its twiknling like the south end of a north bound fariy...itll be pretty distracting I'd say.

get over it, or better yet write a letter to Splash Damage then. They wont change it. Your like 1 of VERY few people that even find this an issue, when the rest of the BRINK population could careless or doesn't mind this feature.

Question AnarchyyFox, what platform will you be getting BRINK on?

So I was wrong then when I said earlier that the last time I had seen a buffed gun was in the CC footage. You're right, that's not bad at all. They really have toned it down quite a bit. Looks pretty cool now, actually. I like it. :disguise:
