GMSTs

Post » Sun Jul 24, 2011 2:26 am

Couldn't find this info elsewhere, so here I am.

How does one alter GMSTs? I've seen people do it (BTB, for example), but I have no idea how.

Since people are going to ask, my plan/desire is to make it so an Unarmored skill of 100 grants as much protection as wearing a full suit of Glass.

It's easy, just go in the CS, open up settings under the gameplay menu, and choose gameplay.

I do that, but clicking on any of the settings doesn't allow me to change anything.

EDIT: Nevermind, apparently it takes a second from clicking on it once to go into edit mode.

I is major derp. :shakehead:

2nd EDIT: All right, we'll see what changing the "fUnarmoredBase1" and "fUnarmoredBase2" to 1.0 and 2.0 does. :P

3rd EDIT: Oh wow... 6,050 AR at an Unarmored skill level of 55.

This is going to take some tinkering tomorrow. :P

Instead of clicking-waiting... or slow-double-clicking... or half-clicking-mostly waiting... or clicking-wait-click... or click-half-wait-click... etc
Just highlight the GMST and press F2 on your keyboard.
It will go into "edit" mode.

This works in almost all other situations in the CS when you need to edit a highlighted field. Like cells or IDs.

Also,
http://www.scribd.com/doc/7007668/Morrowind-Scripting-for-Dummies-9 has a section on the GMSTs. It explains what most of them do, and how the variables work. (some are unknown, but this is the definitive guide)

I think I'm going to have to drag you to my shed out back and love you tenderly now.

If you had *any* idea how much time I've spent in the CS machine-gunning the left/middle/right mouse buttons just waiting for the piece of [censored] to finally decide that it's ready for me to edit it, all the whilst loudly and violently cursing the names of each and every person responsible for the user-unfriendliest piece of [censored] I've ever had the misfortune of working with...

Save it for the Swedish redheads!
:hehe:
But, yeah, it made my life a lot easier when I learned that trick.

One thing you have to remember though, is that with enhanced unarmored protection, npcs will start taking off their armor to feel the breeze.
Ask BTB about it. :P

Additionally, if you wish to read / write GMST values at runtime, there are several new MWSE functions introduced by MGE XE for that purpose.

Pluto, thank you for this little gem of wisdom! I never knew this either.
