Because they're so freaking ugly.
Sorry, a brief stint in World of Warcraft has scarred me for life. Even the supposed character model revamp has only made them uglier than ever, from the looks of Blizzard's recent online screenshots of them.

If they did exist it would just be another subtype of an elf anyhows
Hill elves or somesuch
we're they not also somewhat shorter then the other mer races
here they are http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/File:Riekling_skyrim.jpg
there is 2 kinds of gnomes, the ones underground and the ones in the trees and nature. As far I can see, the lore of elder scrolls DO have them....
What do people want to mix lore from other games?
One should learn this game's lore.
To be fair, someone two posts above you just linked a picture of one from Skyrim, so I'm guessing they are in the lore. Just glad they aren't a playable race.
Nope.
It is speculated that they are called "Dwarven" because the areas where they used to live had giants living there.
And the giants would call them "Dwarves".
Or something like that. Not a huge TES lore nerd.
Oh ya.. probably worth noting I've been using this Garden Gnome avatar for like 8 years...
I miss dwarves as well, love to look deeper of mountains... (yahyah...Whatever!)
That is right, in fact they are about the same size of the Dunmer or the Altmer. In TES lore, the races' name means "Deep Elves" because they live under ground.
Rieklings would be... entertaining. But we've never been able to play them before so I'd be surprised if they get added.
On the other hand... Boar mounts.
those are rieklings. most theorize they came from snow elves
also I would use the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page from now on. elderscrolls wiki is really inaccurate and unreliable
im also not a huge lore nerd ( though i am trying to get more into it )
the wiki says both that they have been described as the same size as most men and mer or as large children with beards.
its possible they were on the shorter size of the mer races.
If mer biology is at all similar to man biology the fact that they live without any exposure to sunlight could stunt growth.
of course this is logical approach to an otherwise fantastic setting so that probably means nothing lol
Sounds like Jedi in the original Star Wars: Galaxies. Of course, everyone whined it was too hard so of course they made it easier...then eventually just made it so you could roll one.
pretty much it, the giants gave them the nickname of 'dwarves' and it stuck. they actual height is somewhere between dunmer and altmer.
But they aren't friendly, let alone social towards other races.
they are real pigs at the dinner table too!
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dwemer
no where does it say they were the same size as children.
not to mention we have seenhttp://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:MW-creature-Dwarven_Spectre.jpg and they are of normal height
But if the giants called them dwarfs because they seemed short in comparison, wouldn't that suggest that a race of genuinely short people must have existed at some point? Otherwise why would they have done that?
