Goblin Culture

Post » Wed Aug 31, 2011 7:32 pm

My question is whether or not there will be goblins in the game, and, if so, to what degree will their culture be apparent. They're one of my races in every fantasy game I play, so I look forward to seeing them again.

So far, I don't think there has been confirmation of them being in the game. There was a belly stab screen-shot some time ago, which imo looked more like the dragon claw quests dunmer than a goblin.

If they are in, I have no idea how the Skyrimic goblins differ from the cyrodilic, if at all.

I'd believe they'd still follow some tribalism as they did in TES: IV. As to whether they're in or not, it's not yet known me thinks.

Personally, I hope 200 years is enough time for goblins to have learned how to speak common.

Wouldn't they consider having clean fingernails an insult though?

Goblins never had any class or culture to begin with. The only good goblin is a dead goblin!

Oh, then I forgive you. Lol. I'm very defensive of my early level cannon fodder brethren. Their tactics (stealthy ambushes, stalwart defense of their homes, no fear of retreating to better positioning) and group mentality is what draws me to them.

I wasn't aware that goblins had a culture (mostly because I always kill one if I see them) but I would still like to see them in skyrim ^_^

Well in other games, it is more apparent. But even in oblivion they have the early facets of tribal culture with their clear hierarchy and group mentality.

I beg to differ. Goblins had religion, division of labour, metalworking, even animal husbandry.

Goblins already have a more advanced society than the humans in Fallout 3.

I hope the goblins are in, and I hope you can make them go to war again. That was always entertaining to see who would win.

Agreed... (cool avatar btw)

I hope they expand upon goblin culture though...
I especially hope that they have a language, are not all hostile, raid villages, kidnap travelers and sacrifice them to their gods, and have more advanced rat farming...

Goblins live mostly in south-western tamriel: Hammerfell, Cyrodiil, Valenwood, summerset. i don't think they'll be in Skyrim, although Reiklings are supposedly related to goblins and i expect to see them.

I remember in Oblivion the goblin tribe would supposedly hunt you down no matter where you went if you stole their totem staff. Did that actually work? I wish I'd have tried that the last time I had Oblivion installed!

well goblins keep rat and do not know about toilet paper.
they are the subhumans of beth.
if you racialize them they would just pass this to the ogres.
so where does this lead to !

I'm hoping and assuming that they'll be in the game, because it makes sense for them to be, considering their existence in northern Cyrodiil, which borders Skyrim. As far as their culture, there's not a whole lot to it, they just have a sort of tribal system, comparable to that of cave people. They don't quite have the mental capacity to develop a deep culture. I doubt they have any sort of theology or anything, but you never know.

Kinda funny how you said southwestern Tamriel, and then named about half of Tamriel as your example. Hanmerfell isn't quite South-west, and neither is Cyrodiil. Not to mention, there are goblins in Cyrodiil right along the border of Skyrim, so I'm expecting that they are in Skyrim, or at least were at some point. I will say though that I don't know a ton about goblins, and you seem to know a bit more about their specific locations than I do.
