There is a different version of goblins in the game you will find eventually.... although it woulda been nice to maybe have a couple old fashion goblin caves like in Oblivion, they were so fun to kill.

Wait until you face the Falmer. They may not be goblins, but they are just as annoying.

Agreed... especially as you reach Falmer Nightprowlers and the like. I really thought these were goblins until I locked in on one and read "Falmer", may as well be. Just as hideous. This game is RACIST to Dark Elves like no other LOL.

Goblins have no unique backstory, falmer do. The Falmer were freakin snow elves from Atmora that were once a civilized race. The goblins were just...goblins?

I appears to me that Bethesda has turned the Falmer into Skyrims version of Goblins. That's a shame too since it seems like they have such an interesting history behind them, now it seems like they are nothing more than mindless, unintelligent creatures that just want to kill everything that isn't one of them.

Agreed. they ruined the Falmer. I remember finding the book about the Snow Prince in Bloodmoon and wish they could have been a playable race.

The Falmers are bad, in a bad way.
You still have slaughter fish. I had one come out of the water and bite me, nasty little buggers.

Falmer aren't goblins. They are an evolved race of mer (elves) that have over time grown bitter and twisted against all other humanoids. The have lived for many years deep within caves where they went to escape Nord persecution and as a result have lost most the use of their sight but have evolved with better use of their other senses. They are also often recorded in TES lore (& have featured in TES travel games) as ice warriors and once sacked the Nord town of Dawnstar as mentioned within one of the previous TES in-game books. Like Altmer are called "High Elves" and Bosmer are called "Wood Elves" etc, the Falmer are also called "Ice Elves / Snow Elves"

There is however a type of snow goblin who are native to the north of Skyrim but aren't featured in TES V as of yet (not ruling them out of future DLC), so I can guess they have been mostly wiped out. They are known as the Reiklings. They are blue skinned goblins who ride around on boars and have similar weapons and society to normal goblins. They have little round wooden looking shields.
Reiklings featured in the Morrowind expansions called Bloodmoon which was set on the Nord Island of Solstheim. Solstheim is NE of Skyrim up off the coastline of Winterhold and its weather and climate is very similar to what we see around Winterhold. A lot of snow and ice.

They are both elven and descended from one line just like all human races were descended from Nords.

The lore behind why the Falmer are as they are now is actually pretty good and explains quite well why they what they are.

I don't really mind that there are no goblins in Skyrim. They don't necessarily have to litter the entire world just because a few players find them cool. As for the Falmer, besides appearing just to add variety to places of interest, started to get a little more interesting that you run into further along the main questline. Unfortunately, the game hadn't explained that little part of the Falmer so it still has question marks over my head.

The Falmer were once an intelligent and peaceful until the Nords sent them underground and the Dwemer sent them further underground.

Untrue. Falmer were natives of Skyrim before the Nords. The Dunmer were originally the Chimer, who followed the prophet Veloth away from the Summerset Isles to Resdayn (present day Morrowind), living and warring with the Dwemer until the Dwemer vanished. They were cursed with black skin and red eyes after the Tribunal became Gods. Nobody is much sure where the Falmer came from originally. Not much background lore on them.

Also, Redguards never descended from Nords. Redguards are from Yokuda. Nords came from Atmora. There's also evidence to suggest that the Cyrodiils were present in Cyrodiil before the Nords came from Atmora.

I'm not too concerned about the lack of Goblins in Skyrim, however I did find them pretty interesting in Oblivion. What I'm not overly crazy about is that IMO they are, in effect, the new Goblins. As for the main questline goes, I haven't even really gotten into it much yet, I'm having too much fun just exploring and doing side quests...along with killing Imperial scum and their Legion. :toughninja:

Excuse me... "elves" in general. Between the Falmer being some form of elven descendants (and goblin looking ones to boot), and Windhelm Nords and the like using elves as urinals this game places the underdog label all over the elf races.

Excuse my knowledge of lore...

Demora still exist but only in a very limited number, my guess is that creatures in Tamerial don't tend to cross the provincial borders all that much... Cougars were replaced by sabre cats, Minotaurs are nowhere to be seen... Orges who you'd think would be able to survive/thrive in the cold stay in the warm climates of Cyrodiil... rats became sheever(sp). Skeletons have coming in as an epic joke (do they all have 1 HP?) and ghosts are now normal NPCs turns translucent blue (they even bleed red blood if decapitated).

My annoyance with the Falmer is that they have ALL become this twisted race of dungeon-dwelling chaurus-carving dwemer-robbing backwards race of blind barbarians. Also they are less fun then the goblins were.
