Goblins

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:00 pm

we have all met goblins in TES games.
some seem like they dont know how to lift their arms

some are capable of using magic

will goblins, like the orcs, ever have a chance to be acepted into society?

(from oblivion) there are shamans and warlords(i think) capable of paralysing you, throwing fireballs.

magic requires knowlendge of the spell you're trting to cast, knowlende requires memorising stuff

memrising requires at least some IQ.

my theory is that goblins are actually quite smart.

1.can goblins speak?

2.do you think they could have real cities of their own?

3.are they smart enough to live with people?

guess thats pretty much it.

1. Probebly have some form of communication.

2. Only after they conquer seven other tribes they can get to the Civilisation stage.

3. Yes but they have to reach the civilisation stage first.

In Summerset aren't they accepted as servants and footsoldiers? Isn't that how the Orcs started off? I think that in a few decades in Summerset the Goblins will definitely be accepted as part of society, but whether or not the sentiment spreads depends on the state of the Empire and the Goblins themselves.

No. However, within the last few decades the Orcs have become a recognized Imperial race after being in an almost identical situation (servants to other races, shunned often, used as footsoldiers before recognition), so if some goblin cheifs in Summerset have heard about it they may try to gain the same status, and the Altmer would be stupid to not negotiate something, being that the goblins are the army.

Damn this 150 second wait!!!

Eh, I don't see it. Goblins fight over stupid things Orcs probably don't get.

Well, the Orc dominion/ kingdom only came about becuase of the massive rip in spacetime/Numidium.

I don't think the Goblins are in any position to do anything like it.

Almost identical? Does this mean the goblins, united behind a single charismatic figure, have obtained control of one-seventh of a giant divine golem and used it to prove their point?

Altmer train goblins as footsoldiers in their armies. Its more like domesticating minoutars then anything. Or at least thats my impression.

Most definitely not.

The free goblins in Oblivion are organized in different, competing tribes. They aren't united.

It may be there is more than one race of goblin - in the history of Hammerfell a race of Giant Goblins is said to have appeared from a dimensional rift. I do not know if those goblins are more intelligent or civilised than the ones in-game.

Thing is that it appears their shamans use magica - but how? Does it operate the same way for them? And how do they learn it - through study or instict? Does it come as a gift from their god/s?

Also if the shamans are inteligent does that make the other goblins intelligent? Etc.

Orcs proved their civilised nature through deeds.

Orcs founded and built a wonderful city and then negociated with the kingdoms around them.

In Morrowind Orcs are the scultors to create the statue on the coast ... sculptors - atrists

Orcs did it - Goblins do not appear to have done so ... nor have they shown a wish to do so - yet.

When or if Goblins do so then they can be seen in another light.

People train animals for war so that proves little - but goblins do appear to be above animal level - they are tool-makers and users.

But what do they want to do with their lives and their civilisation such as it is? That's the decider.

Actually there's 8: the Bitterfish Tribe, the Bloody Hand Tribe, the Dust Eater Tribe, the Rock Biter Tribe, the Sharp Tooth Tribe, the Skull Breaker Tribe, the Three Feather Tribe, and the White Skin Tribe.

Goblins show some signs of basic intelligence and organization. Forming a tribe would require some sort of intelligent communication. In caves in Cyrodill, you can often see pens for sheep and prisoners made, and crude armor and weapons.I doubt Goblins are intelligent enough to form into one big tribe.

The goblins laugh at us when we leave their caves. Oh, sure they put up a good sharade: they'll fight you, they collect shrunken heads and cook children, they'll even war against eachother over a shaft of wood, but it is all just for show. They are far more civilised than even the Altmer, and their gods command respect amongst the pantheons. The joke is on us, you see.

You know, part of why the Orcs became part of the Empire was so they could be used in the armies, at least when you look between the lines. They were not Imperial legionnaires before, and I don't think they featured in Breton armies either.
edit: Of course, there were the mercenaries, which they seem to have been used as quite often during the ages. Forgot about them.

Completely different. Orcs are originally elves, followers of the Aldmer "god" Trinimac (a warrior god of sorts). When Trinimac were eaten by Boethiah and [censored] out as Malacath, his devoted changed with him. The followers became the Orsimer - the Pariah Folk - because of their shame and dishonor. They were despised and scorned by their (once) fellow elves, and were driven away from them, both in the literal sense and because of their disgrace.

Here: http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/truenatureoforcs.shtml
http://www.imperial-library.info/fsg/briansarticle01.shtml (an article on the matter by Brian S)

edit: There is also a little info about Trinimac and Malacath "http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/varietiesoffaith.shtml", and in the http://www.imperial-library.info/book_daedra/index.shtml#malacath.
