Oh god, we are going to be able to jump, right?

Post » Mon Jun 13, 2011 11:40 am

It seems like a natural inclusion, but then I hear a lot of decisions in the game that seem unnatural lately, and I realised that I don't think he jumped once in the trailer. Someone please tell meif jumping is confirmed? I hate when games exclude such a base feature.

OH [censored]. I never thought of that. Lol. If there's no jumping in Skyrim all hope is truly lost. On that topic, why in the hell was there no jumping in LA Noire? Would of made free roam a lot better. But yeah, back on topic, I really hope they don't do that. It will just make playing Skyrim feel so much more restricted and cinematic, something you DON'T want from a game like Skyrim.

I realise correlation does not always imply causation. I just want to know if anyone has an answer to the question.

They should've jumped everywhere. It would have been more indicative of actual gameplay.

That irritates me too. Only games that I buy where I can't jump are Bioware games, now.

I cannot fathom Bethesda not putting jump in.

Despite that being an unhelpful annoying comment I laughed out loud. LOL

No doubt we'll be able to jump in Skyrim, but without acrobatics, my base jumping days are over

It wouldn't surprise me, simply because of how surprising it would be.
But thats because they've been surprising me with their decisions, but I don't expect to be caught off guard this time!

I heard some other theory about not being able to jump a while ago, I have no idea what the reasoning was though. It just reminds me of the soothsayers in January screaming about there being no attributes.

One of the devs posted here in an unrelated topic that they have to keep in mind "that the player can jump on roofs". So I guess it's in.

In a place as mountainy as Skyrim, I can't imagine Bethesda going, "Okay guys, for the rugged place of Skyrim, we're going to take out jumping. Sound good? Now get to work."

Awesome! Thanks Faulgor. I remember that now. They were talking about how they had to deal with extra collision boxes and stuff compared to the Witcher 2 because here you can jump on roofs and stuff.

I would have to assume that jumping is possible. I'd say there's a reasonably strong possibility though that it's fixed height and distance.

Yay another assumption that something isn't in the game because we haven't had verbal confirmation or did not see it acted out in the demo. Well I sure hope everyone enjoys fighting the same two dragons, wearing 2 types of armor, casting only 4 spells, using a ton of dragon shouts and of course exploring Bleak Falls Barrows and that one town because that's all this game has to offer. Gee whiz I don't know how ill get 300 hours out of that....

Did I say that we weren't going to be able to jump? No, I was asking about it. I was expressing reasonable skepticism in the face of uncertainty, after all, there are many reasons to believe they would be in and to believe they would be out.

Jumping is the most basic aspect of any game. Mario jumped to save his life many times.

Any games that include jumping. A great many games do not. It's generally not something consumers like yet many developers do it.

I certainly hope you can jump. I hate that they got rid of acrobatics. I really liked getting good at that with theif characters. Jumping around the rooftops was always a great game.

i have found a few games where you can't jump. bioware games, the witcher series, operation flashpoint, gears of war, MOST 3rd person shooters (i don't count VAULTING or hopping out of cover to count as jumping), hunted: demon's forge, and MANY other games!!!
jumping is SUPER fun!!! :D
