God I hope its nothing like oblivion!

Perhaps the plot and story content of Oblivion wasn't particularly shallow or less in-depth than Morrowind, but it was undoubtedly more repetitive. I hope Skyrim is it's own game, but with certain mechanical aspects similar to Morrowind, such as far less heavy handed level-scaling, more static content, etc...I found that exploration in Oblivion was pointless because every cave seemed to use the same 'tile set' so to speak, and there was never anything special to find. Same went for being a burglar. You can search every manor and house in Oblivion and you'll never find anything cool. Either there was nothing there at all, or it was scaled.

I pretty much hope it's Oblivion with morrowind on top, and a springle of daggerfall, all in a new setting.

It should be nothing like Oblivion? A person may as well say "it should be nothing like Morrowind". Despite common stupidity, the two damn games are very similar, and Morrowind wasn't always seen as the great pinnacle of gaming. I wish a few "Daggerfall elitists" would find their way back to the forums and put some people in their place. Saying a game should be nothing like another is a way to poorly mask hatred for a game. I want to be happy at this point, as the next chapter in my favorite series was just announced, but the forums have reverted to a "Oblivion fans aren't real fans, but are casual action junkies; Oblivion should have no influence on TES V; do it like Morrowind, not Oblivion" stage. I love improvements, but I've had it with all of this. I've absolutely burst my bubble of anger restraint. I've never seen a thread titled "I hope it's nothing like Morrowind!", have you? I would never support such a statement, but this one-sided pit of anger and disappointment is ridiculous. It's been nearly 9 years since Morrowind's release and nearly 5 since Oblivion's. Get over it and move on. Just so certain people know, Bethesda has also clearly stated that, just as Morrowind and Oblivion before it, TES V will do things in its own, distinct style. If you want to play Morrowind, go play Morrowind. If I want to play Oblivion, I'll play Oblivion. Truly, I find it disgusting how people want TES V to be an exact replica of Morrowind. I want features from both games, and even those that came before, but move out of the past and realize you are not getting a Morrowind 2. There never was a Daggerfall 2, there will not be an Oblivion 2, there will not be a Skyrim 2, and there will not be a Morrowind 2. This upcoming game will be Skyrim, not anything 2. Love it or you don't, but I don't want to witness the inevitable whining about the game not being like . It happened with Daggerfall and Morrowind and it happened with Morrowind and Oblivion. This time, it will likely happen with Morrowind and Skyrim as well as Oblivion and Skyrim, and it's getting old. [/rant]

I've kind of noticed it too, it's the new influx of people who weren't around when all of this was discussed, notice how we have a [censored] load of deja vu polls complete with biased choices, and which have all been done a million times, yet now they need to be done again for some reason.

Over the years we've managed to build up and establish a fairly decent atmosphere of providing constructive criticism and praise when talking about each game, and now with all of the new people who either left or weren't around, it's rather annoying having to go through it again.

holy crap, holy crap, holy crap

I can put up with blatant flaming and favoritism because it is fairly easy to call out but, holy crap, if you are going to take the time to understand and deconstruct someone else statement, because Seti's rant was certainly not about which game Skyrim should consider more than another, then please take any and all measurements to abstain from including
  • stupid
  • you clearly do not understand
  • why are you talking
  • sorry, you are just wrong
  • many other types of condescending remarks

in your opinion of other people.

This is a typical game comparing topic, going from a rocky start to many constructive posts to outright attacking other members for their opinions and rude ill informed claims.

I am leaving this closed, if some of you cannot follow the rules of this forum then you have lost this topic and just hope you don't come across my radar again.
