God I hope its nothing like oblivion!

Morrowind was insane with depth and content, oblivion was a prime example of "appealing" to a larger audience. Going from morrowind to oblivion was like going from a complex mathematical formula to a color by numbers. This doesn't apply to the PC guys since the modding community will, as they always do fix the game. But I pray Bethesda didn't take the "easy" path with this game as they did oblivion.

Honestly the references to the Dragonborne and seemingly dramatic plot have me somewhat worried. Of course, at the end of the day, Oblivion's plot was no simpler than Morrowind's - it's just that the latter fit in beautifully with the world and lore reaching back centuries before it. It's not about the conflcit and the resolution, but about everything that happens in between. That is to say I'm actually somewhat confident that Bethesda has put a lot of thought into this installment.

As far as gameplay goes, I don't think a big developer like Bethesda in this day and age will ever deliver a particularly deep RPG - probably nothing more complex than Morrowind was. However, I'm certain that lots of things will be returning. Honestly, developers traditionally would add features to games as they progressed through the series. Do you think the "console gamers" everybody blames for how Oblivion turned out necessarily wanted the game so simplistic? Not necessarily. They'll be glad to see that the next game has more to offer them than the previous one. So I'm hoping Bethesda really puts a lot of love into this one. :)

God I hope it's really similar to Oblivion.

Yes I loved Morrowind, but here you are, insinuating that Oblivion was a bad game and was "easy" to make?

Heh, not to flame or start a battle or anything.. but the chances of a fully voice acted game similar to Oblivion being successful in today's market seems higher than a "deeper" game like Morrowind. Blame the console gamers if you must, but I'd rather have TESV be successful and thus lead to TESVI, instead of it being a commercial failure because the public sees it as a "last gen" game.

If you have the opportunity to pick up a Morrowind GOTY edition for like 20$ I highly recommend it. It will give you the same feeling that Oblivion did, but in a whole new world with amazing environments and creatures. It'd be a good way to bide your time 'til Skyrim comes out ;)

I only came in here to call "TROLL THREAD". But I know this is the opinion of a lot of people on here. So that makes it legit, I guess?

I don't understand why you want it to be or not to be like a particular game, I want Skyrim to be Skyrim.

I think, in the end, the game is going to be ultimately judged by how close it is to oblivion or morrowind.

Well, at least you won't be dissapointed then.

And I hope that TESV will surprise me again, just like MW and OB did. Not the same as any of those games, but something new, fresh, original, yet familiar.

I want a fully fleshed out, deep, detailed, and fun adventure. I want this game to be one where 300 hours in Im STILL finding new things and I am STILL having fun. Oblivion had me going for a nice bit of time, as did MW. I liked the general fighting in Oblivion, I liked feeling like I myself was fighting...did I feel it could be improved on? YES! I hope they make it a deeper experience without making things random. Theres some things from Oblivion I want to stay and theres some from MW I want to come back but most of all I want Skyrim to be able to stand alone as something special and unique.

I think Oblivion was a totally awesome game. Sure there are things I dislike about it, and I did like morrowind a bit better in some ways but it was still a totally excellent game.
The Elder Scrolls world is so complex the lore about it could take like months for someone starting fresh finding out about it all. I think Skyrim will be a great game if it keeps adding new stuff to the lore of the game (like new books, a lot of the ones in Oblivion were recycled from Morrowind) since some people have been playing these games for years and even if they get a perfect fighting system between magic and melee and everything else people will get bored fast.
Plus Oblivion even gave a hint that Skyrim was going to be the next game, some of the town NPC's would gossip there was 'trouble in Skyrim and the old graybeards there are talking about the end of days.' Personally I'm interested to see Skyrim even though I think nords characters are as ugly and dumb as orcs.

Besides even if you end up disliking skyrim as a game there will be another one out after it, I'm betting my money that it'll be in the summerset isle.

edit, and smelly, smelly as orcs. can't forget that not if you ever met a nord.

I don't get why people despise Oblivion. Morrowind had a larger story with more lore, etc because they didn't have to VA all the dialog. Also, a Morrowind model probably has 1/10 of the polys of an Oblivion so it was easier to make more stuff at a faster pace.

You get out of these games what you put into them. For me Oblivion was incredibly deep because I filled in the gaps by using my imagination. :obliviongate:

So we'll then get endless Skyrim VS Oblivion VS Morrowind threads. Great. :shakehead:

I don't think Skyrim will try and be a Morrowind or Oblivion copycat. Bethesda tried that recently with Fallout New Vegas be too much like Fallout 3 in terms of gameplay and exploration, and look how THAT turned out: a good game with crippling bugs and gameplay we've experienced already.

Ugh. I don't understand it really - Daggerfall is rarely compared to Arena, though it's pretty much unanimously superior aside from the wilderness and townie NPCs. Nobody cares about Battlespire's class system over Daggerfall's or how Morrowind's level of detail holds up to Redguard's. Personally I'm going to try and avoid comparing the game to MW/OB as much as possible - I want a fresh experience. But I hope that the spirit and ancient atmosphere of Morrowind is felt more strongly than that of Oblivion.

I love Oblivion - its one of my favorite games and I wasn't disappointed with it at all. That said I would like Skyrim to be very different and to have all sorts of improvements that should come from five years of development and new ideas. My hope for any new game is for it to be better than its predecessor. I do hope it retains the Bethesda trademarks - a large open world, non-linear game where I can use my imagination (live another life in another world as they say). And please don't let Obsidian developers near it.

Every game after release, since Daggerfall:
It's not like the last Elder Scrolls game!! They broke the lore! They got rid of this! They changed this! Etc...

It's probably always going to be like that. Eventually the boards calm down, but there's *always* that initial uproar. After a while, when things settle down, just look back and smile. :)

As to the OP, I don't care what the game is like, as long as it's fun and is a compliment to the series. If worse comes to worse, it could become an Elder Scrolls Adventure instead, but I don't see that occurring at this point.

I hope they take the good parts of oblivion and the good parts of morrowind and combine them. Which is probably what they will do. Oh, OP I can already tell you that it's not going to feel like morrowind. At all. So don't get your hopes up.

So lets make some predictions now, how many "more like oblivon, more like morrowind" threads will be started and locked before this fabled 11-11-11?

I don't know exactly, but I'd guess that Oblivion sold a gazillion more copies than Morrowind. If this is the case, Beth will keep the same formula for Skyrim and that's fine by me! I loved Oblivion, it's what got me hooked into the ES lore in the first place!
My guess is that Skyrim will be like Oblivion but with sharper graphics, better AI and all the little niggles fixed (4 voice actors etc.....).

I would turn it into a drinking game, but I don't want to die of liver failure before the release :P
