When I am on my Orc, as an impoverished noble, he isn't as able to kill as fast and not be killed as good as your average orc, so therefore, to keep him alive in the later levels (since most of them come from walking), I use TGM to keep him alive

I love to use God Mode. I don't see it as cheating at all. It makes the game all the more fun for me.

No I don't use it, and yes I definitely think it's cheating to use it.

Played this game for about four years and have not use god mode once , and yes it is cheating. if you get into a fight you can't handle, you can always try putting your weapon away although it doesn't always work or you can run like hell and hope the other guy is a little slower of a runner than you. There is no shame in retreating when faced with overwhelming odds.

I don't use it. Don't really consider it cheating per se, since the game's single-player so who are you cheating against? I do consider it rather cheap and cheesy though, it's not like the game's phenomenally difficult. I haven't managed to mangle or gimp a character badly enough to feel a need for it, to be sure.

I used to and then I realized it made the game no fun. I do have the Ring of Vitality so no poison/paralysis/disease and I'm a breton so I may use the mundane ring if I get it at some point.

I use god mode for one thing only: If I am taking an action screenshot where my character is in combat sometimes it can be helpful and allow more time for posing things just right.

In game? No.

I think cheating is sort of an irrelevent question for a single player game. I think the question is does it enhance or diminish your enjoyment of the game? :)

God modes fun when you don't wanna be interupted when your dungeon exploring. Other times its a bore its not really fun when your characters equiped with the Escutcheon of Chorrol, Neckless Of Swords, and Ring Of the Iron Fist.

Don't forget a Breton with the Mundane Ring. If you really wanted to be invincible to everything, you could just roll Breton, wear the items that you mentioned plus the Ring of Vitality and enchant your armor with Resist Magic. You shouldn't take damage from anything in the game.

I have never used god mode in either Morrowind or Oblivion. And I do not think god mode is "cheating"

I never found myself in the position of using God Mode. I can see the use of it as a tool for testing out things ingame or mods. So no "cheat", in a way.

If I have a full inventory and am 1 lb over the limit, and its a choice of getting rid of main weapons, potions or leaving a dungeon I worked my butt of to clear with nothing to show.
When I am a vast distance from anywhere and can't FT or not to any place with storage / merchants with any gold left then yes, anything else no.
Is it cheating yes, but its single player, and its more of a short cut.
In combat just turn the difficulty down save then reload and go prepared.

I use God Mode only to test things, or if I want to mess around. Though when I'm playing normally, I won't ever use it, unless it's to correct one of my mistakes. (It did happen to save a second before I was killed. So TGM was most useful in that case)

And no, it is not cheating because it's a singleplayer game. The game suggests you how to play it, but you are the game when you play. You can revert, add and remove rules, such as invincibility. Like Acadian mentioned, if you enjoy playing the game with God Mode, then it's great. :)

Its a console command that stops you from loosing health, magicka, fatigue, arrows.
Stops weapon degrade, and allows you to ignore weight limits.

Edit: on pc you press the ? key to open the console and type tgm then enter, and it stays on untill disabled or you exit Oblivion entirely.

It's the power that makes both the Nine Divines and the Daedra princes bow to your might! Under God Mode, nothing stands the path you build. From the Goblin Tribes to Dagon, your enemies eat dust when you engage them.

All done by making your character say "TGM" in the console window. :D

Ah. PC stuff then. Doesn't pertain to me as I'm a PS3 gal.

I use it on occasion, and pretty much only at lower levels. If I have tons of loot to carry and can't manage to carry it all with potions, spells, and enchantments, I'll consider using god mode. If I'm in a cave or fort or something I definitely don't want to leave valuable stuff behind. Of course, that's not a problem at higher levels...like right now at level 37 all told my carry limit is ~585 and if I throw on some rings and a necklace it goes up to ~735, then I can also use feather potions and spells so encumbrance isn't really a problem anymore.

I'll also occasionally use god mode when don't feel like going the long way and just run down mountainsides. Never use it in combat because I wouldn't want to cheat that much. Most of the uses of god mode are basically "cheating", but using god mode to carry some extra weight I feel is a lot less damaging to the fun of the game (in my opinion) than using god mode to be completely invincible.

—Oh wait, totally forgot. I use god mode most of the time when I'm in Oblivion gates past the first few and before the last ones. I'm not a big fan of the Oblivion planes so I usually just run through with god mode on.

Of course it's cheating! IMO the only time that using the console isn't cheating is when you turn off collision when you get stuck in a wall or something like that. I never use it when I'm actually playing. When I'm just experimenting (use the console to open the spell making screen and give myself 99999999 gold and maxed stats to see how powerful of a spell I can make.) I might use it. It's fun to play with but when your seriously trying to get somewhere in the game it just kills the immersion.

I use it for testing purposes but never in normal gameplay.

Not cheating as such, but definitely cheap, takes all the fun out.

I use God Mode at lower levels until my resources are better. I turn it off when I can stop dying frequently.

Having said that, it's hard to say if it is "cheating"; it's a balance issue. Some players will be die-hard (pun intended) anti-TGM from the start of the game. Some will ALWAYS be in TGM, because for them, the game is more fun if they don't have to worry about dying, catching diseases, getting poisoned, and getting shot with hostile magic.

I am in-between. When I have the resources to DEAL WITH the adversity, THEN I turn off TGM.

Whether it is cheating or not is ALWAYS subjective, there is NOT "only one way to play the game", the game is a PERSONAL experience that varies from player to player.

(EDIT)

Also, there are balance / feature issues. I LOVE Oblivion, but I HATE the leveling system. I use console cheats from time to time, and I make NO apologies for it.

Use god mode? No. I started the game on PS3, so I've had to learn how to adapt without it, and I think I'll just stick with that now that I have it on PC.

Is it cheating? Yeah, probably, but... so? If you want to use it, no skin off my back.

I don't use it, and it's pretty unarguably cheating. However, why is cheating a bad thing? If it's more fun for you, then I'm not going to tell you you shouldn't do it.

No, it not "pretty unarguably cheating." It is very much arguable.
