Going Back to Fallout 3

Post » Fri May 06, 2011 11:56 am

Well seeing that I am bored with New Vegas and Black Ops I was wondering would Fallout 3 be fun to go back to or would it just put me to sleep?

Depends...PC or Consoule? PC + Mods = Fun or Consoule + No Mods = Nap time.

I know its off topic but have ou tried FO1, FO2 or Tactics? If not give them a shot.

On topic. I have no idea if it would put you to sleep.

Well I started a new game up with the some mods on a 360. Turns it out its pretty fun if you mod it. Got a mod that maxes everything out and the La Maison has a vault,an armory,a medical bay and other cool stuff.

I went back to Fallout 3 tonight and I'm not even half way through New Vegas yet. I don't know why, I just really felt like playing it.

I've been jumping back and forth between the two over the past week or so. I'm having fun just exploring, and wandering around, experimenting with different weapons, blowing things up. You know. I just sniped Grouse from the hills outside Paradise Falls, and lured him out of town. Right into my minefield. BOOM! Good times... damn good times.

I played NV so much, for so long, guess I just needed a break, and I hadn't played Fallout 3 in awhile. I'm just going with the flow. Who knows, next week I might be playing Oblivion. What game are you in the mood to play?

It depends why you are bored with NV. Is it because you didn't like it that much or because you have done everything?
If you love open world then Fallout 3 is fantastic. Make sure you get all the DLCs, they really add to the longevity of the playthru.

Why does no mod = nap time?

I like Fallout 3 as much as I do New Vegas for very different reasons. After putting 250+ hours into Vegas and then taking a break for some weeks, its nice to reflect back on both games and recall experiences from both. For me I found the open-ness of Fallout 3 very enticing and rewarding, overall its a more polished game than New Vegas and that shows when you go back.

I agree that mods can make for an extremely enjoyable Fallout 3 experience now - most of the big mods are "finished" and in a stable, production release. Its not such a hard thing to put MMM, FWE, EVE, Fellout/Improved Weather, WMK, etc, etc without getting many conflicts or game problems - and a mixture like that really does change the Fallout 3 experience bigtime.

For modders I am having alot more fun with Fallout 3 than I was with New Vegas, but that can largely be attributed to the fact that it's still somewhat early in the FNV modding cycle. Some stuff doesn't work still, and folks are figuring things out. When I went back to Fallout 3 modding I was immediately pleased by the fact that everything works well there - the GECK and support tools are smooth and not missing functions, the environment is easier to load, test and manage than Vegas and all my object palettes still work!

In either case, no matter what aspects of the game you enjoy, I think there is still mucho fun in Fallout 3 :)

So, says the PC snob - I'm on the PS3 having recently gone back to FO 3 and I'm having a blast - having more fun than I ever did with NV.

I started playing F/O again after 6 or 8 months, with Phallanx Mod and Enhanced Weather and I'm loving it! And I'll probably do it again in another 6 months or so

This was way true for me, my old PC died and I couldn't replace it for almost a year, I have a 360 and was playing FO3 an Oblivion and after a couple months of no mods I was done with playing my favorite games of all time as much as I did when I had my PC :sadvaultboy:

Thank god that's over with :celebration: since I have a PC again, so for me PC + Mods = Fun or Console + No Mods = Nap time an I would bet that for most who have been on both sides of the mod street will agree with that statement

Believe it or not, I am grateful for this fact - I still have over a year of development to do (lol), and would hope to have it done before the next Fallout game arrives. :hubbahubba:

Otherwise it's epic fail time. :)

Absolutely. Fallout 3 was a great game, and I thought New Vegas was a major disappointment. I'm not surprised you're fed up with it. No Call Of Duty game interests me in the slightest. :P

Yah Fallout 3 seems to have so much more exploratory value, i compared the maps and it may just be me but FO3's is way bigger.

You know what now that I think about it I am happy to wait years since I need to learn soooo much about modding but the funny thing will be once I have learned how to use the GECK better it will all change with a new game engine  .

I gotta say holy :swear: Maix another year plus of development :o are you making a new game with the assets?

Hehehe no I'm not that elite, not even close. It will be larger than any of the Fallout 3 DLCs, something like a combination of Broken Steel and Point Lookout in size but with similar questing to a DLC. What I will say is that I'm determined to finish because I love modding so much, that I'm just not in a rush. Over the holiday once I realized that moving to New Vegas was the wrong choice for Skyhaven, I spent time to develop a detailed project plan around the work done/remaining to get my bearings set right. I tried to factor in how long each remaining task would take me, the numbers:

149 Total Weeks
37 Total Months
66 Weeks Worked
83 Weeks Remaining

44.56% Complete Overall
63.43% Complete with the level design (interior/exterior).

As the crow flies and giving myself a generous 2 month break for Skyrim, I project being done around 8/1/2012. :) I will at least be 100% done with the level design ~9/15/2011 (before Skyrim), after which I have the reaming quests, voice acting, trailer and integration. I'm having so much fun that I can't imagine doing anything else with my free time, and will likely not even look at another video game prior to Skyrim coming out. My only goal now is to beat the Next Fallout game (I'd like to release at least a few months before that actually, when folks will be coming back to Fallout 3 in anticipation of the next game).

Fun Times. :) Your mod is looking Great BTW, but I just started it (took me awhile to get my character rebuilt over the weekend). I hope to have it fully explored this coming weekend - very inspirational!

Cheers,

Miax

Fallout 3 > Fallout New Vegas

It's just... Better. In some way. I can't describe it.

I've just stopped playing New Vegas after putting hundreds of hrs into it, didn't keep me entertained as long as FO3, that game kept me going for a whole year (DLC included though). I've even modded New Vegas but still havent modded FO3 yet so really I think that's the way to go (for me anyway). Right now I'm playing simple fun games like plants vs zombies and some other online games with firends but once I get the mods working for FO3 I recon it's back to vault 101, and I know I'm gona love it :D

That's exactly how I feel. The game world just seems to be more atmospheric or something.
