Going back to Morrowind!

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 7:27 pm

Had Morrowind a while ago, but haven't played it in years since I lost the disc :( Never felt like I got everything I could have done out of it - did the main quest and a few guilds, but there was still so much I didn't even touch on. Skyrim's release has got me back into Elder Scrolls mood, and I've just bought Morrowind on Steam and am about to download a ton of mods then stay in my room for the next few weeks/months/years.

Goodbye, world. This is going to be good.

Enjoy man. As someone who never played Morrowind I picked it up, and even though I have some gripes with it I actually like it more than Oblivion (which was the first TES game I played) and like it as much as Skyrim... speaking of Oblivion I hate that game now.

I'd recommend grabbing Morrowind Overhaul if you haven't, enhances the textures, adds some shaders, and also comes with the patcher. I'd also recommend turning off the Tribunal expansion because it can lead to some imbalances early on. I've had little success disabling it myself and have merely turned to ignoring the assassin once killed.

Or, if you just talk to any guard about it after the first attack, they tell you who to talk to in Ebonheart. Talk to him, and the assassin attacks will stop.

Enjoy my friend, with the right mods and tweaks it looks on part or better than the modern elder scrolls games. Not to mention far superior in most other ways. Get MGSO and then start tweaking, almost as fun as playing the game :)

I spent last Saturday downloading a ton of mods for Morrowind, Got some weird graphical issues and had to reinstall half of them to see which one was the problem, but it's working now and damn, is it beautiful. I still have so much to do in Skyrim, but I don't think I'll go back anytime soon, I just love Morrowind too much :)

Just remember... save often, and name your saves! Because you will re-roll again and again ... doing the game as a sneak, brute, and caster... then a mix. It plays far far different each time (one is just go in and slice and dice, one is slow and steady, another is whisper and drop a ball of pure armageddon in the middle of a group) and unlocks different options for guilds (and depending on your skills, quite a few ways of dealing with quests the other types can't)

Even us experienced players forget that... grr..

I would often name my saves, with whatever I was doing like "Amulet of Shadows" "Exploring Nchurdamz" or "Duel with (insert name here)", or simpler things like "Legion Quests" But sometimes I would just call it "Meh" or "Whatever"

Better than Oblivion and Morrowind where its Save 1, Save 2, and so on.

Cheers, I'm still unsure what to play as this time around... I did a warrior and a mage last time, maybe I'll go for the sneaky-type now. Right now I'm just wandering around with a generic character to get a feel for the game again before I start in earnest :)

The sneaker isn't the easiest at start, even if you took the best race for it (Khajiit) and put all those thief skills as major skills. You can still easily fail at sneaking at pickpocketing on lower levels. I'd see it's the hardest type of character to get going in Morrowind even if you know what you're doing.

Also, don't limit to that holy trinity of warrior, mage and sneaker. There's plenty of combinations or even completely other types of characters to roleplay with a bit of imagination! :) Just saying.

Once you get going: good hunting!

I always save via the console.

save "CharFirstName - Fancy Save Name"
