going back to F3

Post » Sun Jul 11, 2010 7:31 am

Oh, and another endorsemant for mods for anyone on PC-- I only tried FWE and Fellout and 4 or 5 story mods, but they were wonderful additions in so many ways, both for the game world and for roleplay.

I played through NV, beginning to end, lots of sidequests and even with a modded Charon (Fallout just isn't Fallout without the object of my desire...I mean my NPC companion Charon there with me. ;P)
Just couldn't get into NV as much as I tried.
It just didn't have the same feel as FO3...some X factor was missing.
I'm back to playing FO3 now...heavily modded. And it kinda feels like home.

I prefer the atmosphere and story of Fallout 3. However I find combat in NV more enjoyable, simply because of the iron sights feature which FO3 lacks.

Definitely worth getting though, especially if you enjoyed NV. Think of it as the same game in a different place.

Hi ya.

Welcome to the forums

Sincerely,

Ace Hanlon

But to the OP you should defiantly get it...it was my first fallout and i loved and made me pursue to play the other ones as well. But you will love the atmosphere, weapons, Story, Towns, BOS and Enclave, and the whole feeling of it. So your missing...go buy that awesome piece of Fallout.

Fallout 3 is tough to play after new vegas. There's so many annoying things that are even more evident than before. The writing between the two games is like night and day.

Think about this: IRL, would you rather explore a ghost town or industrial decay?

If you answer "ghost town," keep on chuggin' in Vegas.

If you answered "industrial decay," get Fallout 3.

There are many who feel Fallout 3 is a much better game than NV, so don't listen to some of the incredibly biased people who have posted in this thread before me.

I'm confused, should the poster instead listen to the people who are biased towards Fallout 3? Everyone who said they liked New Vegas more still recommended the game. Is their opinion invalid when it comes to recommending?

As for your question, I would definitely get it. The GOTY edition. Regardless of how I feel about it as a Fallout game, it's still a good game and worth playing. If on PC, I recommend you get either FOOK2 or FWE as mods to start, they add a lot to the game.

Fallout 3 is a lot more post-apocalyptic and every moment is a fight for survival.

NV has better perks, better guns, much more missions, lots of stuff to craft, but after awhile you tend to kill off everything and find yourself going to black mountain and nuclear test site over and over again just to find something challenging to kill.

Wherever ive checked it the goty is like 40$

FO3 GOTY edition is currently $30 on Steam. They have some real nice sales every so often though, never know, might see it sometime for $10-$15.

It's a good thing that NV doesn't have to rely on dungeon crawling exploration for loot, it has a good story and is an all around great RPG in this time of poor excuses for RPGs. (I'm lookin at you, Press Space to Win RPG)

Well, if you haven't been convinced by now that you should get FO3, then I'm probably not going to influence you too much. But I've been playing all types of PC games since 1996, and it's definitely in my top 5 of all time. Sure, New Vegas is an awesome game too, and it's undeniably made some gameplay improvements over its predecessor. But there are simply loads and loads of cool, unique, and individual things to do, see, and experience in both games, and you would really be shorting yourself if you don't play them both. So yeah, go for it!

Personally, I enjoyed the battles I fought in FO3 more than those I've fought in NV. I could use tactics and maneuvers.

In NV, I often encounter a group of enemies large enough to cause my computer to go into stroboscopic mode, which means that my enemies get to fill me full of lead before I can even turn to face them. I only live through the ordeal in most cases because Boone takes them out.

I like a lot of things about NV, but I'm not satisfied with the fighting.

As the topic description says. should i get F3 after ive plaed NV. I've played it a some friends houses and it seems fun but is it worth it to buy F3 after i've already played NV

Only if you want to get the greatest all around game in human history IMO.

Watch out you might get shot...... a lot in fo3.

You can t make everyone love you in fo3 either. Groups actually think for themselves.

You should certainly get fo3.

It will be difficult not having some of the tweaks Obsidian added, but it is worth playing for sure.

For every game mechanic (except ammo types and cooking) there's a mod that adds it to Fallout 3.

There's been a spot of thread necromancy here and I'm not sure that the OP is even around to heed the advice being given. But just on the off-chance that he's still undecided six months after creating the thread, or for anyone else pondering the same question: Fo3's a great game and is most definitely worth the £10-20 you can pick it up for these days. GOTY edition's less essential though, the DLC add-ons are mixed at best.

Without getting involved in the whole "Fallout 3 is better. No. New Vegas is better." BS, I'll just answer your question. Yes, Fallout 3 is a good game & if you enjoyed NV then chances are you'll enjoy FO3 as well.

You mean as opposed to the tutorial in NV where you shoot bottles that don't move? ;)

I know i just crushed the enclave now i'm shooting sunset sarsaprillia lol .And fo3 and fonv are as good as each other imo they are very similar but other different things that you will undoubtedly notice and it's really just preference tbh .

I did the same thing- played NV, then FO3 GOTY. FO3 had better weapons to craft and less empty space, but compared to NV, the companions are so flat and the story is more linear, and without Broken Steel, the ending is horrible. To be fair, I was so interested in this Fallout stuff, that I spent a lot of time on the Vault wiki, reading spoilers, so that probably took away the mystery. Having factions to side with makes NV more fun too. Still, playing FO3 is worth it.

@Kaz - Word, i did the same thing ... no matter how hard i tried not to ruin anything for myself, not to mention exploring the FO3 forum. lol.

@OP - Its definately worth it imo , play it, complete it & then figure out which u like better for yourself.

You should. It's a great game, was thinking of going back and playing it myself but PSN came back on and I'm tired of 3rd prestige so

Definitely worth it. It's a lot of fun. Get the Game of the Year version. It has all the dlc. It's my favorite of the two. But you need to play it yourself to decide which one you favor. Regardless, both games are fun. :)

EDIT: Erm. Yeah, I already answered this topic.

My first Fallout was F3, so something about it seems really special. It just feels like NV is lacking something, maybe the overall atmosphere. I like them both, but something is special about the Capital Wasteland.
