Personally I prefer NV but FO3 is still a great game and well worth playing.

It will be difficult not having some of the tweaks Obsidian added, but it is worth playing for sure.

I'm not sure I entirely understand this question... Fallout 3 was a great game, Fallout: New Vegas is also a great game... I guess it really depends on how much of a fan you are.

I own Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout 3, and Fallout: New Vegas... while similar, they're all different and wonderful Fallout games to me.

my opinion, dont buy F3 yet, finish NV first. because after you play F3 i am pretty sure, you will have no interest of playing NV.

Fallout 3, while nowhere as good as NV, is definitely a really good game. I'd recommend the GOTY edition after you play NV for a while.

FO3 GOTY edition is well worth it in my opinion, but I love the bleak and harsh, grey atmosphere, the openness of the Capital Wasteland, ability to point and travel off in one direction and be able to avoid powerful critters at low levels if for example you wanted to make a trip to Republic of Dave soon after leaving Vault 101....

New Vegas feels like it has a big brother watching me & stops me from going in certain in directions by placing families of nasty criters in the way that are surrounded by long steep cliffs with no other routes through..... After wasting lots of hrs realising it wasn't really the same open game as FO3 I focussed on the main quest and then all of a sudden all the unique items started to appear and new characters got introduced to the game and lots of faction sidequests became available and the game has become very enjoyable and unique in it's own right perhaps.

I think it will be a few more months before I consider getting out FO3 again though, I've still got too much to check out in Vegas :)

FO3 is a great game, but like others have said, it's missing a few FONV features. Get the GOTY edition and then check on the FO mods board. There are mods such as FOOK2 , WWE, and hardcoe FO3, that make FO3 close to what FONV is. Also because FO3 has been out for 3 years now, people have created several quest mods that add whole areas to explore. Many of the new area/quest mods are as good as, if not better than some of the official DLCs released.

Edit; I almost forgot, you do need to be playing on a PC to follow my suggestion here. :brokencomputer:

I apologize for my negative comment on the NV. because when i play the game, i am more into the MOOD of the game. then really playing. hehehehe.......it is just my style. even though the game have a great story, but they are not able to create the MOOD VISUALLY and Musically. i don't feel playing.

sometimes, i just need to FEEL IT. like i am watching Movie " The Road " no much actions, but the setting and background is awesome. it draw me into it.

the movie make me to remember the apocalyptic world, it trigger the movie " The Road", just like fallout 3. but not NV.

You mean as opposed to the tutorial in NV where you shoot bottles that don't move? ;)

There are many who feel Fallout 3 is a much better game than NV, so don't listen to some of the incredibly biased people who have posted in this thread before me.

How much is "many"?

my 2 NCR$ are for NV, having played FO3 as well, I don't know, but I like NV more, has more "potential"

NV while nowhere near as good and Fallout 3, is an ok game (except for the bugs). Definitely get the Game of the Year version because it has all the expansions included.

I think those that prefer NV, prefer it because it is closer to the Fallout 1 and 2 lore. Otherwise I don't get why. I play on Very Hard and never played F1 or F2.

Or maybe I prefer NV because it has superior writing, story, characters and game mechanics? Seriously, this "LOL old fart geezer nostalgia" is getting old. VERY old.

I would definitely get it, especially since the original edition is only $20 now. I've never played the dlc but I don't really see the point. The extended level cap from Broken Steel seems like the only useful thing about it, but the problem is you can tell they just quickly slapped on another 10 levels with new perks, rather than planning it all out ahead. All of the perks past level 20 are awful and imo game ruining like Almost Perfect (all Special stats become 9). If you like a challenge, then Fallout 3 is already a little too easy as it is, and the extended level cap just makes it more ridiculous.

I would hope it had better game mechanics... since it is after all a copy of FO3 in the since of gameplay (even tho NV is buggy as hell)

Damage Threshold
Ironsights
Tweaked VATS(so it's not an instant godmode like in F3)
hardcoe mod....

I could go on if you want. Have you even played the game? ;)

well you have to better than those 4 haha. i gotta give tho, i do love the DT alot better than what was in FO3. but iron sights is jus an addition to what was already in place (since you can turn it off), VATS is still not much different since Im still able to use it as a instand kill. hardcoe mode is really a joke to me since its not really as intense as i thought it would be, i do lik the ammo has weight and stimpacks revive over time tho.

Like the OP needs another opinion... but yeah, FO3 GOTY is absolutely worth the money and time if you like the FPS/RPG gameplay style of NV.

As Smert says, the writing, story, characters, and mechanics of NV are better, but the writing in FO3 is often damned good and deep in it's own quirky way. The DLC's in GOTY vary in focus; a couple of them lean heavily toward the shooting side at the expense of story, and a couple give you a really well made mix.

You'll have a time-wastin' blast with FO3, too!
