Is C2 going to be a cursing game?

Post » Thu Jun 02, 2011 5:47 pm

Well, different strokes for different folks, as my rather old-fashioned mother would put it.

I for one, am not bothered by it, but I got massively desensitized in the army. Again, most games these days have an option to turn voice dialogue off if you dislike it. The first Crysis, the swearing didn't bother me, and I don't expect them to sound like a bunch of kids that just found out about the words in this one either.

But really, asking any major media industry to only use swearing, violence, or nudity when it really fits is a bit of a joke. They won't because people expect certain things from certain franchises. If I watch a Die Hard movie, I expect to hear "Yippi ki yay mother f***er".

Some things take themselves more seriously than others, and some things, in taking themselves seriously, go over what some people consider "the top". There will always be someone offended by everything, the best they can do is make the game the way they feel it should be made, and let sales speak for themselves. They plainly feel that some amount of swearing enhances the realism of the dialogue. I frankly agree. You clearly don't.

Your opinion won't change, neither will mine. (Unless they DO sound like a bunch of school kids in the game.) All we can do is vote with our money, and set our settings how we like them. For you, that may include turning off dialogue volume. Whatever sinks your submarine is ok by me.

You should watch some Bulletstorm trailers.. Pretty much everything is either 'dike' or some homoerotic joke.
The trailer lasted just 3mins or so and I was already tired of hearing the word 'dike' out of context.

Just finished that game. If you're offended by the "huge" amount of cursing in Bulletstorm, you probably should never watch South Park. Or play Duke Nukem.

-disclaimer: the fact that you get to control a giant, robotic lizard that shoots lasers from its eyes invalidates any and all other flaws that game may have.

I'm not offended by the cursing, what I said is that the overuse of the word 'dike' in the trailers I've seen is tiresome.

Swearing is fine by me, It's a prominent part of my vocabulary lol. I actually like it when characters scream obscenities in situations where I would have done the same. I just find it tiresome when it's continued and out of context.

That being said, my exposure of bulletstorm is limited to trailers.

Well, they actually do swear a lot compared to pretty much every other game out yet, but that's not saying much, considering the censorship of language and nudity in video games.

Still, giant, remote-control robo-lizard with laser eyes.

Yes indeed good sir. I have created an account just to throw support in for those who are against the juvenile, unintelligent, and societal degenerating trend of throwing obscenities all around games, which use to be unheard of only a few years ago. Honestly Crytek, even going back to Far Cry you didn't have obscenities. Steer gaming into the upper crust, not into stupidity.

Because the arrogant crust is the majority of the group of people who buy games? Ever watch Gran Torino? That movie would have felt like it was written by a moron if it hadn't had the obscenities in it.

As for games not having swearing "just a few years ago", the original Halo had a decent amount of swearing at certain parts. That was more than a few years ago.

If you want to sound smart, try going to the page before this, and answering the points I raise in my earlier post.

Prophet dropped the F bomb 3 times in the trailer and said bastard once, I cant say thats alot.

In essense if hes in a city being invaded by aliens with PMCs trying to kill him what should he think or say?

And if theres an alien invasion going on with thousands dead and hes caught a deadly virus I think hes more than inclined to swear prefusely no matter what way you choose to look at it.

Golly me theres alot of aliens around here!

I'm starting to think people will always find a reason to take offense with a game. If something violates your morals, you don't spend your money on it. If it doesn't sell well because of those reasons, publishers will change things. I got 5 bucks says that people who are bothered exclusively by reasonable amounts of swearing in a violent video game are a drastic enough minority of the actual demographic that plays violent video games to not get catered to.
