Going Dark Early - Information Fast

Post » Tue Jun 15, 2010 10:48 pm

Hello! Long time TES fan here, new to the forums. I searched before posting, so I apologize if a similar topic already exists.

There are a great many games that come out that I am entirely too excited for.
You know, the big names that make your imagination swell with anticipation. Mass Effect 3, Witcher 2...Skyrim. : )
When I originally bought Morrowind it was completely foreign to me. I had no expectations.
I didn't read any of the developer hype, I wasn't aware of it's existence until I saw it sitting quaintly there on the shelf.

Because of this innocence, Morrowind was an absolute pleasure to play. Everything was a new discovery. I had no preconceived notions of what to expect.
Nobody told me how the game was going to play or what abominations I would encounter in the darkness.
Not so here. Every minute you (or I) spend scanning for information, reading updates and taking in screenshots soils you.
Slowly, but surely you are losing your virginity.

Has anybody else thought about going dark early? Fasting until the game comes out in November?

Will you join me in slipping on your TES purity ring? : )

I want to, but the new information is just so very temping. I already quarantined myself from the forums since the cover reveal because I wanted to be surprised when I read the Game Informer article. It's a relief to be back again. I don't think I could go until November without being here.

I had the same experience with Morrowind (and really, Oblivion too; i knew it existed and was vaguely aware it had something to do with Morrowind), but honestly, this time around, I just can't help myself.

Most people will tell you that you shouldnt buy into the hype train as it can derail and leave you rather dissapointed in the long run. The only Bethesda hype train I ever followed was the Bethesda published, Fallout New Vegas.

Despite the dated graphics it lived up to the hype. :)

So no, I do not think I'll be going dark.

After these streams of information, it's gonna be bone dry til E3 (maybe) anyway so may as well instead of torturing myself all the way to November. Gonna take a peek when the first in game clip surfaces though.

Difference between going dark in Morrowind and going dark in Skyrim is that, honestly, I have to watch what I pay for now

I'll probably hang around till the end of Feb so I catch most of the updates from the game informer. Then I'll just keep an eye out for Skyrim trailers. But other than that, I'll pretty much be leaving myself in the dark.

Yeah I feel the same way, I would love to stick around and get to hear what all the fans think of the official screenshots. I'm going to try to totally cut off all Skyrim info...starting tomorrow of course. ; )

It has it's benefits though. If you go dark you'll eventually forget about it, making the wait till november more bearable.

@Mikedzines

I still enjoyed Oblivion thoroughly. Just not as much as I would have had I been a stranger to it.

I think speculating is almost as fun as playing the game. So no.

I happened upon Morrowind too. I had twenty bucks not sure what game to get and I came accoss it I was like hmmm weird case I picked it up seen the back, I was not really interested, but I remember glancing at it in aN EGM magazine so as I had it in my hands I opened it up seen the game manual inside it and was like ok this is it. When I played it for the first time I stepped out into the game world and was overwhelmed by the world I never played an open world game before since then I have been an avid fan of The Elder Scrolls and I wont go dark on it I want news and I want to discuss it and I know that when I play it I will be blown away just like I was for Morrowind and Oblivion.

It sounds like we both discovered Morrowind in a similar manner. I had about 20 bucks handy too haha. I'd never played anything quite like it.

Likewise well that was probably the best twenty bucks I've ever spent, as I have found my favorite form of entertainment of all time The Elder Scrolls, it was mind blowing. :foodndrink:

I want every single bit of information that they are going to give me up until the day the game comes out. It's the only way to judge for myself if the game is worth purchasing or if I need to wait for it to hit the bargin bin.

I always try to avoid it, but I never succeed. Whenever there's a game I'm excited about, try as I might, I always end up doing everything I can to pick every source of information I can get my hands on completely clean.

I want to hear everything about the game that I can before it comes out, because reading the information helps the wait go by quicker for me. Once it comes out though I dont want to hear anything about the quests or anything lol.

Same thing for me when I played Morrowind. I just thought "Ah what the hell, I'll check this one out..." and a year later I was still playing it.

Unfortunately, it'll never be like that again.

I’m with you though and I’ll go dark soon. I just want to learn about the leveling mechanics and what not, so that I can build a bad ass character.

NEVER, I am a Skyrim sponge(albeit extremely small at the moment), and will svck up EVERY iota of screenshot, gameplay, information, and everything else.
