Going to give Morrowind another go. The hardest mods out the

Post » Tue Oct 05, 2010 11:29 pm

Yep. Looking for mods that make combat, leveling, theft... everything harder to do. Give the old first-play feel back.

That, and I'd appreciate a recommendation of the best graphical mods. Already looking at Vurt's stuff and the Russian armor re-meshes.

And if you can identify this Argonian mod, that'd be nice too:

Many people find that http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1104873-relz-morrowind-comes-alive-60/ increases the difficulty. Due to all the new NPCs attacking you at random.
But the easiest way to make the game harder is to use the Difficulty Slider. (check your in-game Options menu)

Graphics mods:
A direct link to the current http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1103737-add-to-the-list-of-needed-graphics-mods/page__p__16150079__fromsearch__1&#entry16150079
And here's the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1109820-morrowind-graphics-extender-mge/
Follow the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1060141-mod-recommendations-for-new-players/page__p__15392814__fromsearch__1&and you'll see this section:

I need better graphics!!!
Probably the best place to start is the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1103737-add-to-the-list-of-needed-graphics-mods/page__p__16150079__fromsearch__1&#entry16150079 thread. It's very current and concise, that also includes a section on MGE links.
Another great thread is the http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=956115
Here you will find many links to many new textures avialable, and lots of information on using mods in general.
Separated into categories:
  • http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?s=&showtopic=956115&view=findpost&p=13811812
  • http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?s=&showtopic=956115&view=findpost&p=13811822

[!]If you use Better Bodies you'll be wanting some better heads to match, so there is the handy http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=994490&hl= thread.

You can also manually search through the Textures section on PES, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.List&category_select_id=13 to find many of the excellent replacers that improve the visuals.

A large list of World Texture replacers can also be found at http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:World_Replacers section of the wiki.
http://web.archive.org/web/20080514081136rn_1/ltm.ufrealms.net/textpacks/ and http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/X-Calibar/Morrowind/Textures/Chart/ are both very good ways to see world textures compared.

EDIT: That Argonian mod is a personal mod of Bahamut's, not for public use.

Finally, someone in the same mindset as me.

I use GCD with hard mode, with the difficulty slider at 100. I also hear the Morrowind code patch has a option to make npcs use better spells, which makes the game harder.

Also that screenshot is by Bahamut, id pm him about it, as it uses "questionable" material.

GCD is a step in the right direction, but all it does is keep my unused skills low. I'm still cutting apart scum with longswords easy.

Code patch, I'll try that.

Among my favorites: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1256.

If you choose to travel around at night, bandits and assassins alike will often come after you.
From the description, "-Add new rogues for high-level characters (30-200)".
So it's not over at level 30...that's where the fun begins. (adds rogues at 1-30 too)

If you think Morrowind is too easy, I would recommand playing the 'Horror Mod'. It's a large quest (took me probably around 20hours to play) taking place in a cavesystem near Suran. Besides being one of the best constructed and creative (and most disturbing) quest mods, it also has a lot of fights with insanely hard opponents.
The only reason I might not use it in my next game, is that it's too difficult, otherwise I love it.

If this is too easy for you, I have no further suggestions

GCD and MCA have already been mentioned. Necessities of Morrowind makes the game slightly harder, too.

The MCP can make werewolves tougher, and NPCs in general can use their racial powers (Ancestor Guardian, Adrenaline Rush etc); for the latter, there are also mods with similar effect.
The MPP removes some useless autocalc spells from NPCs.
WGI (Wakim's Game Improvements) gives NPC spellcasters more magicka and better spells.
NPC Magicka Regeneration does what its name indicates.
Morrowind Advanced makes many creatures tougher, and adds higher-leveled (sometimes rescaled or retextured) varietes of them (plus red dragons). Also reduces daedric loot.
Creatures X adds some new critters and tweaks some existing ones.
PTE (Piratelord's Trade Enhancements) makes many things harder; merchants drive harder bargains, and infinite stocks have been replaced by random, slowly respawning stuff.
Srikandis Alchemy (there's a recommended recent "remix" update) is a mixed bag - some things are harder, others easier.
NPC enhanced (there's an MWSE patch for it, so you don't need MWE) improves NPC AI and gives them more potions and marksman weapons.
Taddeus' Balanced Weapons and Armor mostly seem to nerf high-end gear (yours) and beef up low-end gear (that of most NPCs). It does increase weapon reach and speed, though.
GDR (Greater Dwemer Ruins) makes the Main Quest much, much harder. Minions of House Dagoth has probably been incorporated into MCA 6.1, otherwise, it's a good complement.
Pursuit Enhanced is great, but too buggy to recommend.
There are various weather effects (blizzards can freeze you etc) and armor effects (sneak/agility penalties for heavy armour) mods. Also, mods that increase spell and projectile speed, mods that reduce the value of player-made potions (sometimes to 0), mods that make summoned creatures worthless for soultrapping, make certain spell effects unavailable for enchanting/spellmaking etc.

Note: I haven't tested all of the above, and there are some conflicts.

That, and I'd appreciate a recommendation of the best graphical mods. Already looking at Vurt's stuff and the Russian armor re-meshes.

Vurt's stuff is fantastic. Highly reccomended. If you want graphics MGE (Morrowind Graphics Enhancer) is another must have, if your computer can handle it. If you get all of Vurt's stuff it is well rounded off with Valitie's Bitter Coast Mod, Trees! Replacer- Grazelands, CorrectUV Rocks (install this first actually, recommended) and Azura's Coast Grass.

I can't help you with difficulty stuff however.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30563 adds all sorts of new creatures to the game, and some of the higher level ones are pretty nasty.

Right. Any mods that limit my leveling ability a bit more? As in, I don't just become a swordmaster in a few days of cliffracer murdering?

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8080 is supposed to slow down your skill leveling a lot. Never tried that one though.

I use this, and it is very good.

I too love difficulty enhancing and longevity mods, so these may interest you apart form what's already been suggested.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5226 - be warned that if using this with GDR Dagoth Ur is brutal.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1651 - Wanna meet a level 150 daedra?
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1679 - just run when you see a Golden Saint at level 2

The god of leveling mods himself informed me how to configure GCD to a crawl in http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1008425-slowing-down-skill-progression/page__view__findpost__p__14672698

 Good luck with your modded game.

It may not be your particular brand of Vodka, but I have long enjoyed a little something called http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1004642-azuras-touch/page__st__100__p__15923132__hl__rolf__fromsearch__1&#entry15923132. It has a big downside in that it touches a large portion of the game and has a lot of incompatibility, the upshot is that unless you always fast travel, every where, no exceptions, then you will die; a lot. Even the mundane Deliver-this-message-to-this-town missions become epic battles.
