I would have been shocked if they did anything BUT steam for PC activation lol

svcks for anyone who hates Steam, yeah, but hey, I appreciate the Latin you threw in there.
So, they release the system specs at the same time as they go Gold? Or do you think they dropped them early?
Dude, I know how you feel. I am an old timer myself (my first "mods" were WADS). I have been ranting about the steam system for many many years because once the kids get use to their software being sold to them that way they will grow up to accept it for more serious programs. And now I see that happening with such real world programs like Autocad.
Years ago I read an article from Autodesk that said they wanted to do that and had the system set up for it at that time but their customers would not accept it. Well that is not the world we live in now.
Soon ALL programs will be like that now.
And it is going to take a few times where a business cannot do ANYTHING when their internet is down or just the program service FOR TWO MONTHs (remember SONY?)
before any kind of corrections are made to this new way.
We have already lost the fight man. I feel you will regret cancelling your pip boy. I wish I had one coming but I do not own a CELL PHONE ( ) for both security and and personal reasons.
But I now regret not ordering the pip boy anyway.
" No, you can't always get what you want
Wow so Fallout 4 won't run on Windows ME? Preorder cancelled.
If that's what you feel the need to do. But I still think this is a bit drastic.
In otherwords its kind of not very rational given that you can install steam and then uninstall it and it just works anyway,
If you were so certain they were going to be Steam-only titles, why did you buy them before confirming that? I can understand hating Steam (I mean, ehhh), and I respect the crap out of actually voting with your wallet, but if it's that important to you shouldn't you be more cautious about how you spend things, instead of having pristine copies "collecting dust"? (and if they were unopened, why can't you return them?) I guess with the Pipboy Edition it was an impulse buy and you were just lucky to get an order in... but que sera sera.
I vote with my wallet all the time.
I still see plastic Jars of so called Spaghetti sauce on the store shelves.
So yay wallet voteing.
Before you cancel your preorder, I suggest you sell it. It is technically a collector's edition so an unopened copy would be worth more than what you paid for it.
Monopoly? So origin and GOG don't exist?
How exactly is steam killing PC gaming? Seems to me that it's actually thriving. Ease of access, low prices, and variety of both AAA and indie titles. I don't see what is wrong with that. How is steam turning them into console games? The games are no different with the exception of their respective hardware. So I don't understand what you meant there.
What do you mean by discrimination? Is it because you're a Indie developer? Last I checked, steam has plenty of indie games on it.
'm having a really hard time understanding your gripe about it.
I was caught out by the PC specs announcement.
I was expecting it to follow the announcement pattern of Skyrim and Fallout 3, both being released 2.5 weeks ahead of launch.
To my mind there is no reason to release the specs nearly five weeks ahead of launch unless Bethesda are feeling very comfortable about the game.
It further highlights the gallop that Skyrim went through to make the 11.11.11 release date set a year before.
And reassures me that Fallout 4 should be as far as reasonable a stable a low bug experience.
The gallop? From the OP, it looks like they've dropped the PC specs for every game since Oblivion in that 2.5 week span, and Skyrim is no anomaly. Fallout 4 is the odd one out, but dropping the info earlier certainly is a sign that they're more confident, I'd say.
You're quite correct, the PC specs dropped pretty consistently at 17 days / 19 days ahead of launch.
Though given that Skyrim went gold a week ahead of launch and due to a little bugginess, it game me the impression of working hard to 'make a sixy date'.
But yes, the current release is giving me good vibes.
I wonder if Bethesda will be dropping copies to reviewers in good time as early PC specs surely confirms the game is soon ready to mail to those folk.
I am also getting "good vibes". But I don't know about the early reviewer copies. A trend in PC gaming lately seems to be not giving out early copies to reviewers, but rather to wait and give them out when a game releases. And with Bethesda being so committed to not "spoiling the story", I can see them going this route to avoid a reviewer giving away any of the story before launch.
Reviewers got copies of Skyrim in time to get reviews out online a day or two before release, and I think some print reviews were out very soon after.
Bethesda might have gone for a review free launch this time, but I'd be surprised if at least large and reputable gaming sites/magazines didn't get review copies as it went gold.
