Nah, you're not going to Hell for fixing the laptop for a set of headphones.

Now if you'd have done it in exchange for a video of the wheelchair boy going "TIMMMAAAAYYY!!!!" then maybe.

One good deed deserves another, karma goes around, etc. Don't sweat it. :)

Pretty much this. You helped someone out. + you fixed the laptop going out of your way at the point when you still though you're not getting the headphones, so there you go.

Well, I feel less guilty because the surround headphones are slightly "damaged". The wiring is causing the rear right speaker in them to come out with some static, which means crossed//damaged//loose wire. So I get to take them apart and do some small repairs on them.

Yes, you're going to a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where you'll be sent to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

For fixing a computer.

I hope you're not serious.

Answer:

Is this a subtle of way of saying "Look, I did something good, I'm awesome!" ?

To be fair, it's not that subtle :P

But I wouldn't know, you can go to hell for the craziest things. People told me I'd go to hell because of my hair. Ah well, heaven's probably boring anyway.

Nah, sounds to me like you did some good. What other people choose to give you shouldn't matter, who wouldn't be excited about getting new headphones?

When I first saw the topic title the first thing I thought was "aren't we all?" but after reading the OP I think it's safe to say that you won't be joining us when we go there. I can not see how accepting a gift (which you've earned by performing good deeds) would be a bad thing.

I don't think it matters. You did something out of the kindness of your heart, not expecting any gain from it. The fact that you then got something for doing what you did is immaterial.

Refusing the gift would probably have given you extra XP though.

There's a lesson to be learned here: Always be a jerk and never help people. Helping people only leads to misery and woe!

I think that is what the OP is really trying to tell us.

I was expecting this story to end with you installing a modified/pirated version of Win7 on a new HDD filled with porm or something of the sort. I really don't see what you did wrong. Just refuse them or accept them, if you did it for the headphones, it really doesn't matter, because you didn't get into it in the first place for the headphones, they were just added as further reason to fix the laptop. If the guy is really super religious, he probably feels that God told him to give you the headphones.

Lmaooo. Well actually, the guy who donated the laptop probably thought the HDD was finished, so he donated it without trying to wipe his drive. So all the guys music (through limewire as it seems) was on the laptop. So being the legit person I am, I removed all of the previous owners files. Did check the pictures, might of been porm already on there. O_o

Don't see why this would get you ticket to hell unless you rigged the laptop explode or something.

That's so fallout :P

But yeah, I fail to see the issue. Even if the guy went "I'll give you my headphones" right at the start and you did it, I don't see anything wrong with it. You did something, which happened to be for a good cause, and got rewarded.

However, if you were to refuse the reward, you would probably gain karma instead. And your reputation with the charity may raise to an "Idolized" status. So your choice. Karma and xp or reward?

If he is giving you the option of whether or not to take them, then I would say politely refuse, especially if you are experiencing some grief over potentially taking them.

However, if he is forcing them upon you, and you cannot convince him otherwise, then I do not see a problem with you taking them. I don't think that God is looking down at you and being angry for potentially accepting the charity of another. I think He wants us to be willing both to give and to receive (obviously a balance, since one should not live a life solely based around receiving).

You will not end up in hell for accepting an offer of a gift. Without getting too much into religious issues, I do not view one's salvation as determined by good deeds. One does not "earn" their way to heaven.

I will stress though, that even though your acceptance of this gift would not land you in hell, that if you feel bad about accepting them, then it would be best to save yourself the grief and at least view your own involvement as reward enough.

Good deeds are good deeds, regardless of intention (unless the intention was to produce a later evil deed). I doubt the boy in the wheelchair cares why you donated the laptop, but is happy that you donated one regardless of the reason.

Besides, I'm sure you felt a little warm and fuzzy inside when you helped the man with the charity.
