Is a going a Mage Worth it?

Post » Tue May 14, 2013 2:15 pm

After endless thought i have come to realise, is a being a MAGE fully worth it?. I have known people that have started as a mage and gave up on it very quickly as they found it boring.

However i am thinking of brining archery into the equation. Is this a good idea?

Also what are your thoughts on becoming a mage, is it worth it?

Note: Not interested in becoming a battle mage as i want to focus either on being a Mage or a warrior

I love being a mage, although I use smithing and heavy armor as well. Since the 1.9 update, you have the freedom to do this though. If you dont want to do that, being a mage is very fun if you like using a bit more tactics than just running in and smash. It also depends, are you on PC or console. Being a mage on console is VERY tedious because you only have 2 hotkeys.

Being a mage is boring and unfulfilling if you only use Destruction. Mix in the other schools and it becomes fun.

yes i am on console, so it would be tedious. Overall i am not really fussed with magic, the only type i use mainly in my previous games were restoration if i were low on potions . So i may be turning towards a warrior.

Can any people tell me if a shield is worth it?

I think the people who try Mages and get bored quickly are the 0 cost, dual cast Destruction types. That is very boring. At least for me.

Once you start mixing up the schools, it becomes a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

sword and shield is very nice, you can avoid getting 2 hit killed by those nuke arrows from bandit marauders and draugr deathlords with them. Without, you are at the mercy of luck.

Use paralyse, fear, invisibility, Ebonyflesh, Frenzy and other things. Mix it up, it is really fun.

I personally prefer 1 h and shield, some people prefer 2 h , 1 h and shield has more options though, like the block arrow damage and resist 50 % of elemental damage when shield is raised.

yer i might go with 1h and shield. Also you can bash with the shield i think , and stagger the opponent. However i will keep a 2h weapon just in case of a dragon lol

I wouldn't bother with archery, as your spells are your ranged weapons :D .
