I'm going to start an evil roleplay.... Quests to doavoid?

Post » Tue Sep 09, 2014 1:36 pm

I want to make a character who is inherently evil. Not much of a backstory, he will just crave power. I won't help anyone I see on the road or do quests helping people. In fact, if I see people on the road, I'll probably kill them to increase my skill and loot them for gold and stuff to resell.

My main question is, what quest would suit an evil plathrough?
Dark brotherhood of course. No question there. Thieve's Guild too. I know the game makes you think you're noble towards the end of the questline but you're just saving something which is bad anyway.
Are all the Daedric quests? I mean, the one where you help the orc tribe to get Volendrung doesn't seem like you're doing wrong. Neither does Meridia's beacon really? The other Deadric ones I can think of do though.
The forsworn quests? I guess you're sort of siding with the bad guys there? Suppose if you look on them as muderers or freedom fighters.
Dawnguard and becoming a vampire should be considered evil too I guess.
Any other ideas?

Also, I've never played as a vampire before. If I was to do so, will I need to upgrade my Magika beforehand? Or can you get by fine with low Magika?

I don't know, the Thieves Guild are kinda good guys i mean they don't kill anyone and that clearly goes against your characters ideals there since he wants to kill to gain power.

Honestly the Volkihar seems to be the perfect bad guys for you. Will your character be a mage sneaky assassin who wants power? Cause those are the best gameplays.

You should avoid at least Meridia quest. Also if your character won't use big hammers or heavy-armor, bows(just examples) what is the point on doing Daedric quests to gain items you don't really care or use? I mean sure makes you look evil but i don't think Evil characters waste time on things they don't want.

Also killing other bad powerful guys is good cause you will prove to yourself you are stronger so maybe help some people in some quests will be good to prove you are worst i guess.

Killing Alduin and Miraak might be also good cause you prevent the world to end so you can spread your evil more and proves you really are powerful. I mean this are just ways to look at it.

Also i wish the game would let you be even more evil cause most of the quests just scream hero...

Dark Brotherhood. If you don't want to be an assassin then you can really do any of the faction quests and just put your own evil twist on them. Sometimes it involves things you create in your mind for your roleplay but it's quite fun.

Plenty of evil Daedric quests to choose from.

You said you are becoming a vampire to become evil, but vampires themselves are not evil, but the Volkihar are a good example of evil vampires. Just pointing that out.

Yes, you could say the Dark Brotherhood is evil, the Thieves Guild isn't really evil, in my opinion, your just a thief who doesn't really kill people.

Of the Daedric quests, definitely do Molag Bal, Boethiah, Mephala, Mehrunes Dagon, Namira, and Vaermina all their quests are kinda bad and involve killing people, perfect for an evil person. Avoid doing Meridia's quest for sure because that is more of a good guy thing. The rest are just kind of neutral and aren't really good or bad those are Clavicus Vile, Hermaeus Mora, Hircine, Peryite, Sanguine, and Sheogorath.

I always find it funny when Meridia ask my Vampire character to clear the shrine when i use necromancy myself. Just kill the poor guy and take his place, corrupt the shrine yourself :)

Another thing you forgot: corrupt Azura's star and trap black souls.

Evil isn't about the action, it's about the motivation.

For example, you could choose to help someone on the road side for the reward and information that could lead to more wealth and power, and then decide to either spare or kill them for greater influence or even more gold and power.

The thieves' guild makes sense as they are a player in Skyrim, and given that they also plant false and incriminating evidence and frame people, they are a potentially useful resource.

The Mage guild makes sense as it's a center of great power.

The Companions guild makes sense as it not only provides a reasonable cover for your nefarious activities, but if you're a senior member or the leader you can direct the guild away from your operations, or use them to attack competitors in the region.

The Dark Brotherhood is an obvious choice.

Siding with/against various Jarl's can benefit you directly through appointments and power, as well as position you to betray them later in the Civil War.

An evil person isn't necessarily a blood loving psychopath, or should I say JUST a blood loving psychopath. They can be conniving and machiavellian in their quest for knowledge and power. That may mean you want the love and adoration of the people to support your eventual rise to power as well as provide cover for your more questionable activities. At other times you may not care about their love and adoration because it's too late for them to move against you.

And you don't necessarily have to side with the Volkihar vampires. On the one hand you can use it as a means to increase your own personal power and abilities, however do you really need to join them to benefit from Vampirism? Serana can convert you even after you wipe them out. One way to play it is just to view them as a potential rival for your domination and conquest of Tamriel, thus requiring that they be eliminated.

Find evil motivations and any action, whether it seems "good" or not can be evil.

Who ever said the thieves guild isn't evil, ask a few shop keepers in Riften. 'Protection' is pretty evil........

Yes but they don't go around killing people they are just breaking a few things now imagine if it was the Dark Brotherhood going around killing random shop keepers so that the others are afraid and do whatever they say. Now that is Evil.

Agree with this alot. although about the last topic on the Dawnguard. Joining the Volkihar can lead into you being their leader so being it's kinda more evil that way than joining the Dawnguard. But this is just my personal opinion.

Also this thread should be moved to the spoiler section cause there's kinda alot of spoilers here. Just saying. But given the time that passed almost everyone played this quests probably.

I don't know if I see this as evil. i mean everyone has their own definition of it, but to me someone who is after power and knowledge isn't really evil.

I mean a lot of what you said sounds more like someone who is power-hungry, or just a straight up selfish ass, but that doesn't make them evil in my opinion.

An Evil character does need Friends, a minimum of 20 named Friends that are not Essential or required to live through an entire evil playthrough.

More or less what I was going to post. Being heroic doesn't necessarily mean you're a good person.

My advice is to try to avoid doing evil for the sake of it. More often than not it comes off as cartoonish (which is great if that's what you're going for). Think less of the action, and more of the motivation. The Thieves Guild is a good example of a faction that can be either "good" or "evil" depending on your motivation for joining.

I'd say do just about everything in Skyrim.

The Companions are basically mercenaries- muscle for hire with fairly loose morals

The College supports all magic use besides necromancy- plenty of power to be gained there if you use magic

The Thieves Guild are a bunch of a-hole thieves(duh) and bullies- lots of coin to be made

The Brotherhood are assassins- the go-to evil faction

The main quests(vanilla and DLCs) give you more power to wield and preserve a world for you to wield it in

Beyond that, just steal and murder when given a good opportunity and don't do quests that don't benefit you in some sufficient way. A character that does most quests in Skyrim ends up being a pretty bad guy or gal.

I'd skip the Companions. They seem to have a code of honor that your character lacks. The TG would be OK, you could just RP that the benefits of membership are worth dealing with their strictures. Remember, evildoers do follow the rules sometimes, they just do it for their own purposes.

An evil character could just go with the flow and do what they want in order to further their goals on the side.

Companions and thieves are probably on the avoid list. DB on the join list, Volkihar faction too if you're using Dawnguard.
