No gold on beasts...I beg of you!

Post » Mon Jan 24, 2011 1:56 pm

I used to raise cattle and I know that if anything gets covered in some grain or hay it will be eaten.... even some rather large items as long as it is not too tough or sharp (leather gloves perhaps, but not metal stuff). Sharks are swimming junk yards... an entire suit of 18th century Spanish armor was found in a shark. Just think of the possibilities (giant slaughterfish)!

EDIT: forgot to mention that my dogs eat just about anything that is not hard...

Oh...c'mon...

Dude its true, haven't you ever heared of when people camp and how a grizzly will eat the food in the camp? Ever notice how half they time it also eats something that was near the food like lets say a pair of coins or something that is shiny?

That sounds really interesting, is there a way you could link that incident (if possible)?

I don't doubt animals eat things and they stay dormant in their stomach for long periods. I wonder what kinds of things you'd find in a thousand year old dragon... *wonders*

I'm going to have to agree with you. Killing a bear and then looting some gold that they had on them always made me raise a brow.

"Wonder what he was planning on buying.

Obviously, the bear ate someone carrying the gold. Having crabs drop lockpicks is more of an eyebrow raiser.

I think that a few animals can have gold on them, but not many.

My old dog eats toilet paper, paper towels, and tampons. Not to mention there have been cases of dogs eating golf balls, knives, and other very weird objects. I'm sure wild animals may occasionally eat something small and strange, like gold coins or a small gem. Heck, it has been observed that some birds will eat pebbles to help with digestion, that some birds are very attracted to the color blue, or they really like shiny things.

I can't remember an exact source... pretty sure I read about it in National Geographic, some random book on sharks, and some other places... but it has been a long time since I researched sharks. :(

Tiger sharks are notorious of having extremely random things in their bellies, like cans of oil for example. Discovery channel, National Geographic, Wikipedia, museums, and books about sharks say the same thing. Hell, the general rule of thumb with a tiger shark is, if it can fit in its mouth, it will eat it.

I fired up Oblivion, the first creature I killed in the save file I opened was a rat, and it dropped rat meat and a pewter fork. I suppose it would be very plausible for a giant rat to sneak into a kitchen and eat both the food, and the pewter fork. If I remember correctly, most other animals have similarly plausible items, and it might actually add to immersion to the open minded

Lol never found it common enough to complain about, the odd bit off gold or a gem from eating the shinny shinny it fine IMO, 'no' gear plz unless it's ruined and from inside a dragon that would be funny aloud of skellie bits and some armour lol. Maybe an ogre with a fork, a bit like the ghouls in fallout with a old token peice of history, you know cus the ogre loves his fork even if you swallows it three times a week.

people carry that stuff, animals eat people, animals accidentally eat stuff.

or

stuff is shinny, animal like shiny, animal eat shiny.

Yeah, no.
When was the last time you saw any animal carrying something like that in real life? Never, because that's outrageous, and not realistic at all. I 100% support the OP, make animals carry things animals carry, which, unless you are a Kangaroo, is pretty much nothing. Make tusk/fur/pelts etc lootable only off animals.

If a bear rummaged through a campsite and found a glove with some spilled honey on it... what would winnie the pooh do?! (eat it of course)

Pretty much. Only creatures i really saw gold on were the mudcrabs which made sense since they look like the type who would eat anything including lockpicks. I never found an axe or sword in a mudcrab so its all good in my book :D

Sharks are known to eat so much crap. The weirdest thing I heard that was found in a shark was a suit of armor and in another case a torpedo! http://sharkdivers.blogspot.com/2009/01/top-10-found-inside-sharks-times-online.html

I came across wolves with silver forks quite often. Oddly enough, though, I never imagined they ate them. I always imagined a rich family out in the woods for a picnic, and a pack of wolves come barreling in, eating all their food, and the family itself. But! One of the rich folks shanked them good before they went.

I never had this problem. As people have said, animals only include one or two coins at best, which isn't that hard to find an explanation for. Finding gold on Ogres, Trolls, and other humanoid monsters however should be prominent, as those monsters probably are intelligent enough to use gold as a form of currency in their societies. Luckily, Bethesda seems to do a good job at this so we should see an even more improved version where animals drop even more specific loot pertaining to them.

One gold coin makes sense. You know, every animal gets curious now and then as to what the shiny thing tastes like. But two gold coins? Come on, stupid animal, the first one was hard and flavourless, the second is no different!

My dog has eaten enough random garbage to fill... well a garbage can. Not an outside one but more like a kitchen one. It does make sense how they have it. Although it is comical to go back to a classic like Dragon Warrior and finding swords in certain enemies.

That being said, Dragons better have enough gear in their bellies to equip a small fighting force.

Personally i like what you're suggesting, but since beasts (like dragons :s) will probably be the most dangerous of monsters out there i kinda doubt this'll be implemented in the game. I'd just get used to the theory someone else stated above me: "beasts like shiny"... beasts eat shiny' or something like that :P
