I heard this song in a band concert I went to last weekend. The concert itself was a bit of a disappointment, except for this song. Composed by Eric Whitacre, he had said that it was more difficult to write than more complex pieces because of it's simplicity. He had to maintain the musical strength while making it simple enough for high school bands to play, and so the melody is a bit more focused.
