Gold has weight.

I think gold should have weight, but that it should be part of the hardcoe mode thing maybe. Maybe a customizable hardcoe mode. You can select various options for how hard you want it, like gold weight. Also being able to drop gold again would be nice

Big, fat NO to weighted gold. There are some realism features that should not be implemented and this is one of them.
As immersible as it would be, it would be hellishly annoying to need to use banks or house chests to keep gold and walk left and right if you want to buy something. Daggerfall has already shown how annoying that could be and even the Letters of Credit didn't help much there.

There is a reason why RPG's have unrealistic features like not wighted gold and bottomless inventories (while we are at it, it is quite ironic how ME2 was not RPG anymore just because it had an immersive inventory): some stuff it just too annoying to be there.

I think there may be different kinds of realism. Gold coins in e.g. the Roman Empire were extremely valuable- most people probably never got their hands on one. I have always assumed that my character's Septims were of several different denominations, with huge stores of cash being only a small bag of gold coins. Unless you want to include money-changing in the game, it seems a bit ridiculous to give coins weight.

I think it should have weight. Everything should have a weightvalue (maybe barring quills and other similiar items). It would help improve the economy in a game like this where loot and money is everywhere and all around (also, much higher prices and much heavier use of the mercantile skill, should it be implemented, because the way it was, it was useless due to the huge amounts and ease of obtaining "everything of value").

If coins weighing is immersive realism, then not being able to sneak carrying more than one is too, as even if the guards are less psychic this time, they can still hear jangling.

No, because it's also not realistic to carry 3 suits of metal plate armour and several weapons, but I don't see people complaining too much about that.

I'd like gold to have some weight, just so I have some newfound appreciation for its value and don't just run around with 100,000 Septims in my pocket. Plus, I want to drop gold again.

Voted optional. For more immersive gameplay for the rp'ers, this is a gold idea. You wouldn't be able to carry 9999999 gold. You would have to store money in banks and chests. But i can see how this would get annoying for the non rp players. Optional is always a good resolution!

Dropping gold always made me feel rich in Morrowind!

Agreed.

It wasn't a pain at all in Daggerfall. But if you haven't played Daggerfall then you wouldn't know.

Good point. Think about houses that cost 70,000 gold+

Cash Mules. Problem solved :) And then you have bandits out for your gold

No. A level of inconvenience too far for me.

I would like to see money as a distinct item again though, coupled with a sense of self-betterment for NPCs.

I want more monetary details. "Gold" just doesn't cut it. In Oblivion there was Platinum as well, but you couldn't spend it..?

We need Copper, Silver and Gold, cause who in their right mind pays a piece of gold for a carrot. We need some sort of bank system as well. Not with loans and interest, but more of a safe storage location where you can store your valued belongings and large amounts of money. Just something that reduces the risk of getting it robbed from your house =). It would also 'insure' your money in that if the bank got robbed, they'd have to cover the loss. You should then be able to purchase expensive stuff like houses based on vouchers handed out to you by your bank.

Edit: Oh, and yes, it should definitely weigh something, just like everything else.

I think this would be GREAT, much like ammunition weight in New Vegas or Modded Fallout 3 - it would force us to plan a little better.

And if the weight starts to get big as we get rich, like in times past, we can buy diamonds, gems and other jewels/jewelry to "store" the value of our cash.

Would be cool to if you could bury your loot, like if you didn't have a way to drag it home. Place a marker on your map and retrieve your loot later =). Just don't lose the map!

It wasn't a pain at all in Daggerfall.

Except if you forgot to deposit it in a bank and then you found yourself quickly sinking in a dungeon!

I'm hoping swimming is revised in Skyrim for such a purpose, too. I really think you shouldn't be able to travel too far in plate armor.

I voted that it should be option. We know individual towns/cities have their own economy, so it wouldn't be a stretch at all to include banks in larger cities. Any large purchases from a store in a city could be taken from your gold supply in the bank in that city, rather than handing over 2,500 gold coins over the counter. Smaller purchases would have to be done with coins (unless you have a medium-high barter skill), as well as purchases away from the city, and of course illegal transactions.

I am also strongly in favour of having a vault or treasure room in the larger houses (an optional upgrade), where you can store chests of gold, valuable items and jewels.

I know I am beating a dead horse but the economy in Oblivion was flawed, every item needs to re-evaluated as to weight and value. That includes the septim as well. A three coin system as in Dragon Age would go a long way in solving the problem of packing hundreds of thousand coins. In Oblivion Bethesda got the weight vs strength completely backwards. Steel is stronger than iron so steel armor should weigh less than iron and the weight of ebony armor should be equal to or less than steel ect. I would much prefer that BGS spend as much time and thought on the economy, weights & value as they did on the new alphabet. Oh and stackable 3D coins as well.

That sounds like fun :) I hope gold has weight and that you can drop it. There was a mod for OB that did this, worked wonders.

no, this is a fantasy rpg. yeah its not realistic, but its not supposed to be. you want realism, put the game down and do some non electronic type activities for a while. most people play these games because they want to get away from the real world for a little while.

I just want to be able to drop gold again. I could care less about it having weight.

:this:

If there are going to be dragons flying about and altercations, I wouldn't want any paper money to go up with the log home. Gold, if melted can still be reworked into bars and coin. Couldn't care less about the weight because there is magic(feather/strength addition/T.A.R.D.I.S. worthy chests and such) so it is kind of moot for me.As for banks, even though Daggerfall had them, that just feels odd. Bank of Skyrim? Where there are tellers taking in everything from slaughter fish to pigs and slaves? Mead Hall profits down, and your bows and arrows get repossessed? No thanks. Keep it in a chest, bag, wife's shoe, where it is safer. ; )

There is material for some really funny overheard conversations at the local bar here...

Who are you to say what a fantasy rpg is supposed to be, especially when it comes to something as rudimentary as realism. Maybe we should remove gravity because that concept is too realistic.

Exactly, levitation FTW!
