Gold has weight?

Gold has weight?

In Daggerfall, there was a limit to how much gold you could carry, thus banks were neccessary, more immersive imo. I vote yes. Also if banks were in skyrim then you could rob them., like the great house vaults in MW.

Hmm, not sure. With banks and all it might add another dimension but if done badly it could also be more of a nuisance than anything else.

Yes if money has weight (like daggerfall) then banks are needed (like daggerfall)

Not in normal un-hardcoe skyrim it shouldn't. But there's no reason why it shouldn't in hardcoe mode for the people that want that difficulty to overcome.

Gold has weight only works if they either give you something more valuable to convert cash into, or if there's nothing in the game that costs alot. (Like, how would you carry 25k+ gold over to the city hall to buy Fancy Mansion?)

Well, I suppose there could be bank transfers. But that starts to get away from feeling like a fantasy game, and more towards modernity.

I don't want gold to have weight. It's just my form of currency, it seems unnecessary to give weight to it. And adding weight to it will never immerse me more until they remove hammerspace entirely, and that is not something that will work to well for a roleplaying game.

Well such things was in medieval also, banking has quite long history, thats will be nice to see good economic system, where gold will actually have weight as currency and as item again, but does devs will implement such feature?

Personally I don't want it but if they want to make it an option or add it into a hradcore mode then I have no issue with that.

It seems to me that gold with weight equals banks, bank accounts, letters of credit and so on, which is good for a little increased immersion and also provides some interesting locales and situations for some after hours, freelance, hand-in-the-cookie-jar thievery. Not to mention the possibility for appropriate side quests involving the banks, bankers, etc. -- All good stuff in my book.

And honestly...there should be no possible way for my character to haul around 200000 in gold on his person...unless...hmmm...unless that's why we can't levitate anymore...everyones gold is using up all of the potential levitation magicka available on Nirn and is hovering around us in neatly stacked pillars...always conveniently out of sight and just beyond the range of our peripheral vision but always within reach. ;)

Once I found out MW let you drop your gold (it was weightless), I found it silly why Bethesda didn't allow you to in Oblivion. I mean you were the only one in the whole world who carried more than 10 gold on your person!

Of course, a decent economic system would have more values of coins, instead of everything being "gold", with a meal costing 2-5 and a house costing vast piles. Low value coinage for low value items, and high value coins (or gems, or notes, or whatever) for rich folks, governments, and land transactions. Part of the reason we need to be able to carry vast quantities of coins is because we only have one denomination that has to work for everything from a glass of ale to a castle.

...not that I'm saying change the TES system. I've got no personal problems with weightless coins or the lack of a banking system.

(Weighted coinage has always seemed to me to be one of those pen-and-paper RPG things that's there so the GM can mess with you. "Grats, you killed the Copper Dragon! It has a hoard worth 500,000gp! Too bad it's all in COPPER PIECES! Bwahahahaha! Hope you brought 80 workers and a fleet of wagons, svckers!" )

That would be completely stupid if Gold has weight. This isn't a real life game this is a fantasy game, you don't need to explain why gold doesn't have weight. It would be a terrible gameplay mechanic probably the most stupidest thing that has been done so far. :brokencomputer: :brokencomputer: :brokencomputer: :brokencomputer: :brokencomputer:

Yeah, gold has weight in reality. Just like in reality you'd need one hell of a backpack to carry everything else the player character does.

Immersion < practicality here I think.

I would love that level of realism

but come to think of it.... I don't want gold to have weight, unless there is a banking system that works well.

im def voting yes for this there is no reason i should be able to slog 250000 gold coins around on top of my 6 suits of armor 3 staffs and 12 daggers. lol in all honesty though i would welcome gold having weight.

How many dollar bills can you stuff in your pocket. Compare that to how many quaters you can stuff in your pocket

No, absolutely not. I hated it in Daggerfall. When I loot things, unless I find something special, I usually just take the gold, meaning I always have a lot of gold on my person. I like not having to keep track of how much I have or get encumbered just because I'm carrying a bunch of gold. It's extremely annoying if it has weight. I'm almost ALWAYS encumbered in Daggerfall for that reason, and I DO utilize the banks, I just have too much money.

Weight, and size! Carrying 1000 gold coins might be possible, but where would you store them all without making yourself combat ineffective?

In Daggerfall, when you had to receive a certain amount of gold that would exceed your carry capacity, the bank or merchant (you sold an item to) would give you instead a weightless letter saying how much it's worth, some kind of tradable check or something :P

It was a nice touch in Daggerfall really the bank presences weren't out of touch with reality either so it was another somewhat unique thing this game had that was lost since then. The only problem with that feature of gold that weights was that it wasn't user friendly explained and the first few times I got hit by that effect, I though my game was bugged (well, even more bugged :P) cause even naked I wasn't at 0 encumbrance. Nothing that couldn't be solved though.

No, it's a (mainly)RPG term refering to the nowhereness that character use to store the many huge items they collect.

Indifferent rather than don't know
I didn't feel banks and letters of credit added much to Daggerfall myself
Now if they sorted out a decent economic system for Skyrim that'd make a big difference
