Gold should be much easier to get than Oblvion

Post » Wed Feb 02, 2011 1:15 am

In Oblivion gold was so hard to get. You had to do quests and fight hard enemies. I think Skyrim should have rich merchants like Creeper and the Mudcrab merchant who have lots of money and buy anything at full price. Also, there should be large deposits of gold hidden for people to find it if they come across it.

What? You think gold is hard to come by in TES? In the end, I had bought about 3-4 player houses wich is all worth 5.000 - 20.000 each. I was overloaded with gold in the end.

You ever thought about grindin?

No... It should be harder to get and items should be more expensive, in Oblivion a beggar could buy noble clothes after one day of begging.

There's no point in getting such amounts, because there's nothing that expensive. If they make that much gold easy to get you can buy everything you want in a few hours.

lolwat? Gold was easy to obtain in Oblivion. It was Morrowind that had me stuck for money.

Skyrim should make it tougher to obtain gold.

I wish gold was easier to get in OB too. Then again, I don't play games to be "challenged".

The Only reason it's hard to get money in Oblivion is because the quests gave out so little. You could gain the main bulk of your wealth by selling stuff.
It was easier in Morrowind because everybody gave out 1000 and 500 gold for quests there, and you could get expensive equipment early in the game if you know where to look.

Now I don't know how it should work in Skyrim, but it shouldn't be too hard to get because then I would just not buy anything from shops and get even the food from the depths of dungeons because it's cheaper that way...

Well, we could have it like MW, in that gold is everywhere, but princes are also extremely inflated! Nah, rather not. But seriously, just head into Alyeid ruins and loot everything you see. Those are big money makers right there.

Actually, money might be even easier to obtain in this game. The smithing, farming and crafting systems might make that easier?

I don't know about making gold easier to get, but there should definitely be merchants with more money. In OB the merchant with the most gold only had like 1200 septims. That made looting any item worth more than 1200 pretty pointless...

Gold's a tough subject. It's always far too scarce in the early game and far too abundant in the late game. I'm not sure how you fix this, but I hope they find a way!

I thought it was pretty hard to get gold in oblivion.
I mean, I got most of my weapons from quests, caves, dungeons and whatever but by the time I finished the game I had something around 5,000.

maybe they should make it so you have something to buy in the late game, hand made weapons and armor. Or getting a mansion built.

Some of us want enough gold without wandering into random bland dungeons and ruins. If you enjoyed the way OB did it, cool, but not everyone plays like that. Also, console commands aren't a solution for console gamers (ie the majority of Bethesda customers) so keep that in mind when insisting something works/doesn't. It needs to work for everyone, or it needs changing. :brokencomputer:

how exactly should you earn money then? quest rewards? Farmer ted isn't going to have a whole lot of money to give you, but some quests from nobles or guilds could pay out like the dark brotherhood did. In ob there was actually repeatable quests like collecting black bows,

Yes, quest rewards. And it's still a game first and foremost. Farmer Ted from Nebraska might not be weighed down with wealth, but Farmer Ted in my video game can have an adequate reward for taking up my time. IMO.

i think its more likely that the most farmer ted could give you is a family sword, or a treasure map...to gold!

Of course, that's true for most RPGs, especially "open world" ones with plenty of side stuff to do. The real issue is balancing how hard (or easy) it is to get started. The first few hours.

(which everyone has different opinions about, so..... )
