Good attention to detail with dungeon flora

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 2:24 am

The first time I saw a tree inside a cave I started laughing, I thought someone made a stupid mistake. But then I saw the opening in the ceiling with the sun coming through.

From that moment, I realized there were many examples of this throughout Skyrim and they all seem to have taken biology basics into account. It's nice to see people thinking outside the box when designing these environments.

Just wanted to point that out

Yep. It's awesome, especially since if you go on top of said cavern from the outside, there is no hole to be found.

I notice that when my female warrior ran in her studded leather armour and the axe slung on her back scrapped on her leather pleats it actually made a scraping noise.

And also to the other guy who posted. Dont tell me you actually went looking for the hole from the OUTSIDE where it SHOULDVE been after seeing it from the INSIDE of the cave/barrow.
If you did,.....very very sad indeed lol. Once Ive done a dungeon or barrow Im Outta there.

I have since found an exception to the rule. In the Dwemer ruins of Markarth, there is a tree with vegetation growing around it, supposedly unattended and without any source of sunlight. It could be argued that the tree is dead but there are other plants around that seem pretty much alive.

REALLY?

Because that would break dungeons. They're in separate interior cells. Obviously having holes going up means that you can't get up them, holes down into dungeons would just be too much hassle, you wouldn't be able to see the dungeon and dropping down would have to "teleport" you like a door into the dungeon, the drop killing you in the process.

I'm amazed that Bethesda put so much detail into small things like this and then people always find a way to see a negative side of it.

It's unfeasable to do this for every dungeon is what I meant. Dungeons are made with the freedom of not having to be in scale with the land they're meant to be under. By making every hole match up with the exterior you'd need to try to scale the dungeons and design them in a way that they are identical to the landscape above them. Not only does this severely drain creativity but it's quite frankly a waste of time.
