Good Ol' Battered Hunting Rifle

Post » Sat Jan 09, 2016 8:11 pm

Hey everybody,

as a long time fan since the release of the second game, my hero's weapon of choice was the Hunting Rifle. I loved its appearance in FO3 and NV, because the battered style really made it seem like "it's been this long". Being as weird about details and characteristics, you can maybe imagine how it's actually upsetting me how annoyingly well-maintained this iconic, deadly piece of plywood now was made to look. It's too shiny. The wood even has decorative carvings/painting on it. Heresy!

There's enough mods out there that turn it into a Counter-Strike-esque camouflaged, tactical, flashy superboomstick; but all the fancy carbon fibre stocks and recon scopes in the world won't match the charm of a duct taped, cracked stock, wired barrel, half eaten up by rust; where the shine of a metallic surface remains a long-forgotten joke of an idea.

TL;DR Nobody else seems to care for it, so I want to create a retexture of the Hunting Rifle to give it the classic battered appearance of the previous games.

Problem is: I have the Xbox One version of the game. Is there a way to obtain the required asset files etc., without purchasing the PC version of the game again just to datamine it?

Thank you all for your help in advance.

TRM

P.S.: Yes, I've signed up here primarily for this. There's your clue how much it bothers me. I should probably seek therapy.

I know the feeling. I also miss finding weapons that are half-destroyed, and working my repair skill up enough to make them like new. Mods are nice, but I miss having to repair weapons too.
