Good dragons?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:16 pm

I'd be suprised if all the dragons in the game were evil. Even if only an easter egg I'd bet
beth will put one dragon in that is either not evil or too lazy to go flying out and attack
a town and instead prefers to stay in his cave.

If nothing else here's hoping you can at least have some conversations with them because
having all the dragons in the game as evil, destroy everything, burn burn burn it all down is
a touch one dimensional.

I believe we can call dragons to our aid with dragon shouts, so my guess is this evil whathisface god guy who wants to nom the world has enslaved controlled them - and when you kill them you 'free' them.

Well it's been mentioned that some won't attack unless provoked, but I don't know about being able to have a chat with them.

Well let′s look at it this way, when you have a master, a creator, a god! Watching over you driving you onwards on your quest for destruction. Then you′re not allowed any coffee breaks.

"You should have acted
They're already here
The Elder Scrolls told of their return!
Their defeat was merely a delay.
Until the time after Oblivion opened.
When the sons of Skyrim would spill their own blood.
But no one wanted to believe, believe they even existed.
And when the truth finally dawned, it dawns in FIRE!
But! There's one they fear. In their tongue he is Dovakiin.
Dragon born!"

That being said, we've been told that the Dovahkiin can call down a dragon to help fight (possibly against their will). But all indications in lore are that the dragons raized Tamriel in the past and intend to do so again. Either way it looks to be very exciting to find out the truth in game!

Yeah, maybe as Dovakiin has dragon shouts he has the ability to comand certain dragons to do his bidding.

Most animals are not good or evil, they are just animalistic. I expect dragons will be much the same.

I do believe this could fire off a whole new topic, but from what we know, dragons "speak" and there fore are considered sentient and not "animals" in the traditional sense. Although all animals communicate, having a verbalized understandable language by other hunmanoid races has been the criteria for sentience (not that I agree wholely with this perspective). However, evil vs good is often relative to the prey. For example, when the Hyena deicdes to kill and gnaw on the jack-a-lope (ficitious being) the Jack-a-lope most certainly would feel that the hyena are evil! :) One's perspective certainly dictates or helps us to define what we believe is good or evil in our worlds. But I would never classify a Dragon as a mere animal.

Well, they are intelligent, true, but what I mean is that I don't think they will attack out of maliciousness, more out of a basic animalistic need for food or to defend themselves and young/possible group members/territory.

I see, but that does go against previous lore that tells of how they did go out of their way to raze humanoid settlements to destroy them. I'm all for a benevolent dragon here and there within the dragons of Tamriel, but so far I've been unable to find any Lore to support your hopes. Here's hoping Beth has put a few in the game! Cheers!

I like that idea that they're "enslaved" by Alduin. If this is the case, I think a major part of the main quest would be to "free them"---maybe they even gang up on Alduin and finish him off in the end, like Akatosh did to Mehrune in Oblivion.

Dragons value treasure and loot like the rest of us, so they are less animalistic than one may think.

Though dragons seem to have a strong sense of duty. In Redguard despite being quite intelligent the dragon still fights you because it's his duty.

My guess is Alduiin gives them their job (destroy man) and they abide.

As for friendly dragons, we know there is a shout that let's you call a dragon. I think that's as good as it's going to get.

Ya I like this idea. And..(as dumb as this sounds ) I think it would be awesome if The two aspects of the dragon god of time faced off, Alduin vs Akatosh! Who will win! ....ya only wishful thinking, it already been done...still would be cool to see though

Oh I'd love to have friendly or atleast neutral dragons in the game to talk to! I loved the mix of dragons in Baldur's Gate 2, where for instance you had a dragon that actually gave you a quest to save her eggs. But I kinda have a slight suspicion that all the dragons will just be there to be killed, which is a shame.

Well, according to the lore, the empire used to employ dragons in their service. If you ever played battlespire, you know that imperials used to ride them into battle. So clearly, Dragons weren't just some chaotic force for destruction.

Those were red dragons, these are black. They could be different, but defiantly food for thought.

I can't say about Skyrim, but from what little I've read Dragons don't seem anymore destructive in general than any other race on Nirn.
They do however seem to be of Mer like jinxed proportions, to the point that cursed to fail comes to mind.
So hopefully some scale to degrees of hostility may be possible.
I'd like if the civil war of the Nords emerged to occur at the same time as a civil war between Dragonkind.

Those were red dragons, these are black. They could be different, but defiantly food for thought.

In Akavir the reds were tamed as well by the Snakes, the blacks fled but then due to further conflicts all types were said to be destroyed.
In Skyrim the Cliffracers drove them to Cyrodiil and made them disapear.
So the Dragons could be remnants from either of these groups, or unique ones all together.

I think that like saying, "Is all demons evil in christian belief?"

They said that the dragon will unwillingly help in a fight

dragons are suppose to be very rare akavir races, they are very inteligent, and they aren't EVIL BY NATURE like most people think, so yea, dragons are smart and they may fell threatened by other races, they will attack, or not. thats what probaly the "unescripted" dragons are going to do, and we will see them screaming at us if we get to close to them, or just rushing at us if they spot us. its going to be awesome

I'm not sure if all dragons will be against us,to be honest.
Todd said there are different types.....what that entails overall,we don't know for sure yet.
But i don't think it will be as simpe as kill dragons and kill alduin, there will be more to it....in my opinion.
