Good friends! Support my dollar redesign!

Post » Fri Jul 02, 2010 8:19 am

Man I must have taken what like a 2 year hiatus? Well the impending status of New Vegas and my need to shamelessly ask for help has lured me back. Yay for you all...

So I have been drawn into this U.S. Dollar redesign project with a few co-workers. Now hear me out, I spent a solid week on my design so it is hardly as if I threw some shoddy sketch together. I invested some effort in this. And I stand by my redesign. I will happily explain all of the detail I put into it, but you get the idea if you poke around on the blog and check out my entry.

You can see all of the entries http://richardsmith.posterous.com/

Check them out. Feel free to give me input. Of course my entry is "Chris Jennings". Id really appreciate it if you kindly wanted to cast a vote for me. Ill take criticism as well.

Your probably thinking hey... I dont give a squat about U.S. currency. Good point. But one or two of the leading vote getters are actually UK designers...

So if you DID want to vote for my entry, its on the poll at the top of the blog, or you can just go straight to the poll http://polldaddy.com/poll/3633530/.

If I can scrounge up like another 20 votes, Id be ecstatic. Voting for me (Chris Jennings) Ive heard can increase your attractiveness to available females.... Ive heard anyways... Anyways... no need to register or anything. You just gotta click. Hopefully by mine.

I would love to but I have an overwhelming desire to have Ice Cube on my money. Seriously though, some of those designs are down right disgusting. Yours is easily one of the best. I really cannot believe the results of that poll. Someone is spamming the votes.

Howdy.

INtersting design. Did you have to incorporate security elements? Also, were those Braille bumps; won't they wear down, or is that a required ADA element?

Some of those designs look like monopoly money or something :P
Yours actually is one of the few there what looks like real cash.

And welcome back!

Sort of.... Not considered a requirement. In fact there are no reqirements beyond the basic submission guidelines. The security features are such a big part of the existing currency that I felt like it was something I had to work with. I didnt go for a radical web 2.0 look. Some people obviously did. I just went for something practical and new. All the braille embossing is probably also a stretch but hey... its supposed to be a concept.

The only problem I see with your design is that you positioned the face in such a way that you can't actually see the whole face. Obviously this is because you assumed, well, who doesn't know what Jackson looks like on the current $20 bill? Well, that's the thing, if your design was ever actually chosen (hypothetically of course) to replace the current $20 bill, children and people who had never seen what the current $20 bill looks like would have absolutely no idea what face is your $20 bill. They would only recognize Jackson by his eyes and nose, and would have to look at an older $20 bill to see the whole face.

True, but who learns who the presidents are by looking at money and compared to the some of the other choices, I mean really, where do people come up with these ideas.

I began first by looking at the OP's submission, but then I realized that for many of the designs the little thumbnail does not do them justice. I found myself voting for at least 6 of the designs (aside from the ones that were obviously a joke). Some of the designs, when really examined, demonstrate a lot of time and thought. :)

I don't really like most of the designs but I did start cracking up when I saw http://node1.nirvanix.com/polldaddy/polldaddy/images/307d0ce7f09311d321e669d47d986cf4-l.jpg

Can you imagine a bunch of counterfeiters laying down on the carpet with their color crayons trying to duplicate that?
