Good game, but still disappointed

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 7:07 pm

I love Fallout 4s push towards exploration and all the loot you can get and stuff.

Ghouls crawling out from under a truck had me jump a little.

With that said, Im a hugely hugely disappointed now :(

Why you might ask? Settlements. Yes that is right to me the settlements are disappointing. You see at E3 when they announced that we could build our own settlements and stuff, Im sure myself like millions of others thought this meant we could into the wilderness, find a good spot and set up a nice thriving town. Oh no. We are forced to build settlements where Bethesda tells us we can. That was a huge disappointment to me, because what if for example, I wanted to build a settlement around the Corvega Assembly Plant. If this is all about players choices, then daggummit, I should be able to set up an entire town around the thing. Not be told, you have to build it right here because we so say. That is not player choice, that is Bethesda choice. That coupled with the fact that most of time building can be extremely tedious makes me almost wish a powerful radiation storm would hit me and just kill me at times.

Then you get the power armour. Those blasted fusion cores deplete faster than the stands at a Dallas Cowboy's game. And the AI...I thought I had seen some weird AI, but these mobs, they are not just dumb, they're stupid. I see someone aiming a gun at me...let me run at them carrying a pistol. I wonder whos gonna win against a rifle?

It's not that bad. You have many spots to build upon. You also have a good bit of land to build as well at that settlement location. It does take some getting used to, but then again all games take some getting used to. Don't get frustrated and quit or rage quit. It's a great game and you have a lot of exploration to keep you busy. Maybe the Developers will add more settlement spots in the DLC and future updates. I'm sure they could.

If I recall, Beth did say that settlements were going to be constructed in certain places. Granted, they didn't emphasize this "catch" too much. Are you a pc player? If so, I'm pretty sure this limitation is going to be disable by modders.

Nobody thought that. From the very beginning it was made clear they would only exist in certain areas.

no Im a Xbox One gamer. Just wish I could construct where I want too and not where I am told I can. For example: I can "pack" up a Workshop and set it wherever I want and build from that. Wouldnt require any updates save being able to pick it up etc.

Uhmmmm lets see. Me, several of my friends, and all that did think that :) So please show me where it was said it would only be in "certain areas." 10-1 says you cant :)

"... and there are many large sites in the game world where we allow you to build..."

Wish I put money down on those 10:1 odds.

This should have been obvious after Hearthfire.

Yes they are supposed to, but I don't think anyone knows how that will work exactly yet and what limitations they may put on them.

What's bad is their atrocious viewpoints when building. I can't believe you're unable to zoom out when building. How the feature made it to release in this form is beyond me. Absolutely corner-cutting and rushed feature, like their combat and gameplay. The 3rd person jump animation is partial proof they just leave stuff alone and rush their development.

Yes, but we still don't know how complex the console mods will be. Heck, even for pc this particular issue of settlements might prove difficult to mod. We still don't know how hardcoded this mechanic is.

If you're even thinking of getting around this with a mod, dont waste your time. Use the SDK to build your town if you are that picky.

I will add that the most infuriating/disappointing thing on PC is the terrible controls, not being able to rebind keys and the UI that dosent fit to PC, this trend of making port consoles is getting out of hand, we paid for a PC version we expect that and its a worse offense when you do it as Bethesda, a company that is what it is because of PC users.

I will not adress any people defending this, dont bother.

It leaves a lot to be desired but I dont mind having set places. They seem numerous enough. I've found 3 and have barely explored much yet. 1. I wish the buildings weren't so junky and 2. more stuff to build like entertainment for your people, comfort and exercise/ skill building.

I've counted all the settlement spots in the guide there r 25 in total I only saw 4 places in my playthrough though so there are small ones then big ones. You can bulid pretty high up to but I have not tested how high you can go.

I suppose "build where you want" would be better... But then again, they didn't really have to add a build feature to begin with, so you can't really get too disgruntled about it. Don't know how essential this feature is for the game yet though. Kinda hope it isn't, as I can imagine it getting a bit tiresome in the long run, gathering all those resources. I will play around with it, just don't want to feel forced.

Haven't tried settlements yet but I was one of the trillions (yes I know there aren't that many people) who knew you could only build at settlement sites. Bethesda made that clear.

AI seems better then any previous Beth game.
