Good job making grenade and melee button the same

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 2:16 am

Seriously, I wonder who made this brilliant idea. 30 [censored] minutes wasted because I tried to bash a roach and instead launched a fusion core that broke my leg armor.

Well done, whomever gave the same [censored] crappy controls for PC. /golfclap

And no, this is like the tenth time it happens and I finally had to rant about it.

Yeah it svcks, big time. Should have had a default of G for grenade, stands to reason.

Have not had an issue with it on my melee/explosives build but then it's probably easier using a controller. It is hilarious though picturing someone trying to punch someone with a grenade in their hand. :flamed:

Why wasn't power attack just hold down LMB?

I ran into this issue early in the game, so I ditched using thrown weapons. Now I just trade them. I hated how I'd "pull the pin" only to hit RB (on XBox) and see my weapon drawn and bash.

Very poor decision to use the same button for both. If I have a grenade selected, I should use RT to throw it, not bash it with my weapon like a baseball bat.

I had hoped we had evolved into a standard of having a completely free KB assignment. I have to wonder if anyone actually tested the game with a KB n M.

Yeah its pretty piss poor game design.

Whoever thought that was a good idea needs a good stern talking to.

The thing is that you cannot disable fusion core launching so once you got the perk, (I got it for core lifetime, not to fart nukes) it's an unavoidable problem.

I believe this was done because there was not enough buttons on a controller to have it seperate... much like how in New Vegas the 2 key was hard mapped to swap ammo because the 2 key turned out to be the down arrow on a controllers DPAD. it just proof that the game was desgined for console first and pc second

I'm not too terribly bothered by it, but it definitely isn't ideal. I actually tried programming the grenade button to one of my spare mouse buttons, but it told me that this button was already assigned to something else by default. I couldn't figure out what it was assigned to though.

The key assignment in general seems to be kind of buggy in FO4. Hopefully that's something that'll be addressed in this upcoming patch.

I started a new game with a melee character and I'm finding that the melee combat and balance seems to be half baked. I'm considering just giving up on meleeing all together until mods can fix it.

I like it myself. Tap the button for melee... Hold it down for throwing weapons.

Try not to hold the button? If it still happens when you "tap it" then your keyboard/controller is acting up and might need maintenance.

Because its a "power" button I always instinctively hold it down and throw a molotov right in my own face and die

not to be mean here, but do you people not check the controls before you play? Thats the very first thing I do. When I played fallout 3 on PC I remapped a few for my personal preference .

Not being able to remap IS the issue. It has nothing to do with an incompetent user.

The incompetence lies on the developing side.

Maybe I am crazy but didny console outaell PC by like 5X? I saw that somewhere but not sure if accurate. I assume they optimized for consoles. I'm on console and hate the grenade button as well... Don't know why it is the bash key I always mess them up.

I think I'm slowly getting used to it, but yeah, I don't like it. Molotovs have been thrown at enemies way too close for comfort. As Akrabra said, 'G' would have been a better button for it, and it has been used in other games. 'F' could have been an option too (no one uses that to select their items, right?)

No offense, but in our series of: "Conversations that have never happened - PART XIV":

"There's this thing that keeps accidentally happening!"

"Try not to do it!"

"That solved the problem, thanks!"

"No problem!"

:P

Also, power attacks are usually done by holding a button down, so people do that from instinct.

The control scheme is designed for gamepad, which has very limited amount of buttons. They always do this rubbish.

Yeah, they should deffinitely switch it to "hold to bash", and "tap for grenade"...like any "sensible" game would have them set as.

my issue with this is using the grenades button for the hold breath in scope.
i've thrown SO MANY molotovs by zooming out and still holding the button

What system are you on?
Hold Breath is 'left stick', and 'throw grenade' is right bumper for me...on PS4.
