Good Lord hardcoe mode is OP!

Post » Fri Apr 02, 2010 9:28 pm

I'm on my way to Primm and some Power Gang members jump me and one throws a stick of dynamite long range it lands at my feet and cripples my right leg. And now I have two of them on me and I start kiting them around and using stem packs. I kill one and I am kiting the last one and BOOM I back into a landmine and cripple the other leg LOL. Now there both dead and I am all crippled up and my health is low. So I looted them and limped my way back to Goodsprings to see the Doc, but there is a problem! I don't have 50 caps to get patched up and I ended up selling the weapons I just looted to get all fixed up. I totally restarted after getting 16 played hours in a normal game just to play hardcoe mode. And I can tell you with out a doubt it was well worth it, it's the most fun I had in a rpg in a long time. I can just imagine the stories I am going to have after I get level 30 in the game!

hardcoe mode is a very good thing - fits the gameplay fantasticly - great decision to implement such feature into the game on Obsidian's part.

I enjoyed it very much also.

Although I must admit that I am doing a regular playthrough now because I've just finished a hardcoe one.

It. Was. Hell.

I will play more hardcoe playthroughs in the future though.

Yeah, that's why I always stock up on Doctor bags or Hydras. It's even better when you expose yourself to radiation, esp. early on in the game when RadAways are hard to come by (and are still relatively expensive)- you'll frantically start looking for a doctor.

That little side-of-the-road Powder Gang camp? Yeah, those mines got me too. I had a Doctor's Bag and a Hydra, but just after using those, I stepped on ANOTHER mine and crippled myself again! So, limping back to Goodsprings I went...

So far the scarcity of resources is feeling much better than FO3. I've only found 2 RadAway, so I'm actually concerned about my radiation level as I continue to scarf radioactive food and water. I'm gradually finding better guns and counting my bullets and shells, resorting to melee to conserve ammo, praying for a convict wearing leather armour so I can repair my own... :fallout:

11 hours in, hardcoe, very hard, 15 doctors bags lots of stims, 3000 caps, i can take out armies, and radaways are everywhere (traders), never once used a doctor since I can mostly anything without taking too much damage (sad thing, the game is too easy)

Vipers blew up a truck, breaking every limb in my body. I couldn't hold the rifle straight to get a killing shot, so I had to limp away, low health, and hide behind a rock crevice. When he came into range I blasted his head off with a shotgun. :P

What do you mean by 'OP?' I've never heard that used in this context before, only to stand for 'original poster.'

It's been a struggle my rad medicine is low, my stimpack count is low, bullets are low, and I can't carry everything I find. I'm loving it! :fallout:

I do enjoy HC mode. I was doing fine up until primm. haven't died yet doing fine. The thing that killed me was not an enemy but a miscalculation in a jump.... Fell to my death :banghead:

Aside from having hardcoe mode enabled, what do you guys have your general level of difficulty set to? I'm playing on normal + HC, and 12 hours in I've only died once when I was jumped by a few more Viper(?) gang members than I was prepared for (reloading and using a different strategy with more cautious use of cover made the encounter a breeze).
No crippled limbs yet either, as I've come across more Doctor's Bags than I've needed.

Additionally food and water are available in seemingly vast quantities (at least if you don't mind stealing from a few empty houses here and there), so having to eat and drink really haven't had much practical impact on my play style. The same goes for sleeping. And radiation.

I've also skipped crafting entirely for now, I'm never short on ammo (and so far the standard types have gotten the job done) and while I enjoy taking the game slow (haven't even arrived in NV yet), spending an inordinate amount of time looking for specific crafting materials doesn't really suit me too well.

In most games - although generally less so in RPGs - I almost always play on easy or normal difficulty, but I'm starting to think I should probably crank it up a notch here in Fallout: New Vegas.

Maybe not everyone of us is as super duper skilled enough to find that easy and if you do find that way to easy, too bad looks like the game was designed for the less capable people like us.. so can you please not spoil this good thread

can not belive you. 11 hour really far fech unless your using cheats or elite compaines. Try doing the game with out any compains. I looked at your other post and I belive your just a lieing troll as you clam to kill a deathclaw with a 9mm which does no damage to a DC on hard mod. Their armor is just to high that it bounces off their skill. Plus your to low level to have any of your skills high enough that your 9 mm to break 15 damage. Now if your using FO3 cheat codes and op npc then stop tring to say the game is to easy as your not playing it right. I will say this. Ceasar was to easy specailly using stragy but kitting them out side of his tent using the big open area as your biggest advantage.
