[REQ] A good map maker

Hi,
Were you using a texture replacer to make the CS water appear blue rather than pink? One problem with streams (of which there are many in the ULs) is that they're often created using animated flowing water meshes, which won't look like water in the CS-generated maps. You'd need to edit them in afterwards if you want them to appear as water does on the rest of the map.

So it seams that streams need hand coloring afterwards.

I think that'll work perfectly. :)
Great :)

Anyway, I'm more busy than normal now, but hope to get a working alpha out in not too many days, which can be used by anyone who want to test, and hopefully inspire some to actually create sub-map components. :)

Sorry, but you know that you can replace texture for water in the CS, right?

Or is water completely ignored when exporting those CS local maps?

No, water isn't completely ignored. The world map Better Cities provides when in the Imperial City http://bettercities.free.fr/Maps/BC_IC_World_Map.jpg. The blue of the water was recoloured using Photoshop from pink. Now what I cannot recall, is whether Ismelda (who created the map from the CS local map creation thingy) was using a CS water texture replacer when she created it (in which case regardless of CS water colour, the local map when generated always comes out pink) or whether at that time she was NOT using a CS water texture replacer (in which case if she had been, presumably the water areas would have come out blue). It only needs someone with a CS water texture replacer to generate a local map to confirm, however as I have no need to do so, I haven't done so :)

But then there are the streams found in mods such as the Unique Landscapes. They use animated meshes showing flowing water (not vanilla meshes, but similar to the vanilla waterfall mesh). These will likely not show up at all in CS generated local maps and thus will need painting in by hand later.

Actually, I'm not sure if the water even gets generated all of the time. I remember being warned of that once, but when I was generating local maps one time for the purpose of tracing a map out I wanted to keep the water in so I could trace the exact shore line, but it wouldn't generate the water for me.

In either case you can tell in that picture you posted that it was all done in an editing program. If you look at the bridge to the west the water doesn't go all of the way under the bridge, it sort of stops short making it look like a shoreline. Seems like they just generated the local maps without water and just put a water layer in. nvm, looking at it close it looks as if it was generated, also I realized that bridge has land under it.

(also if you can tell me how to change the water texture for the cs, my burning eyes would gladly thank you.)

I am quite sure that the water appeared pink rather than not at all, although I could be mistaken. It was about a year ago that we actually created that map.

It depends on whether you turn water on or off for the render window (at least that's how I remember it, and I remember trying that out, so..). For creating a map, I'd recommend turning it on because it's easier to color it blue afterwards than to carefully look where there should be water.

I certainly agree with that! Whatever colour the water turns out as, having it exist at all to be recoloured is much more preferable than not having it.

they should reconstruct kvatch and add more missions
The reconstruction of kvatch would be not only awsome but it will give more to explore and its something everyone has been waiting for. I would like to see more missions secret society's and more places and people to see. make some horse drawn chariots or vineyards you could own have a family something to spice up the game.

This thread should now be closed, as a proper http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1149198-beta-dynamic-map/ has been started.
