Good movies

Post » Sun Nov 14, 2010 2:39 pm

I just re-watched Pulp Fiction, one of my favorite movies, but I wouldn't recommend watching it with your mother. If you've never seen it though, ditch your mother one time and rent it out :)

I watch it with my mom....

I recommend to watch Sever Samurai, even if you hate japanese films. It's epic, it's funny, it has great acting and atmosphere. Check it out.

Grumpy/er Old Men (romantic comedy)
The Muppet Movie (IT's the Muppets! Common! )
Hunt for Red October (spy drama, action)
Arsenic and Old Lace (classic dialogue comedy)

I thought the Hurt Locker was pretty good - no where near as good as Jarhead, but still good.

I'm trying to remember A-Team better - I saw it quite a while ago. I remember my impression was that is was just the ordinary action/comedy film - pretty good, but nothing innovative or unique. What did you enjoy about it?

I enjoyed Hurt Locker, but I guess it was too hyped up so I expected way too much.

As for A-Team, I thoroughly enjoyed the hell out of it, as it was pure mindless action-comedy. It had some really cool action scenes like:
Spoiler
The flying-tank
and some great jokes here and there. Plus, it has Liam Neeson in it, which basically sold it for me. I've enjoyed every film I've seen with him in it. Even Clash of the Titans! :P

Among recent movies, "The King's Speech" was better than I expected. "Toy Story 3" was also good; it's not really a kid's movie, the emotion in it about growing older would only be understood by advlts.

Rent the movie "Wall-E", that was good also.

Have to agree on both -- King's Speech is awesome. TS3 is OK but pretty predictable. Wall-E is beyond words.

I need recommendations on movies to watch.
I can't be awkward because my mother will probably be watching
I'm considering maybe 9, the book of Eli or the hurt locker
Are these movies any good and not awkward.
Any others you guys reccomend?

9 is a pretty decent flick, but dont expect much above decent. Book of Eli was boring and just simply lame. The Hurt Locker is an excellent flick.

I've recently taken into watching the Harry Potter movies again, and I must say, they're pretty awesome! :)

Goblet of Fire - :meh:

Donnie Darko is just about my favourite film, although if you don't like films that mess with your head it's not for you.

The LOTR trilogy goes without saying.

Slumdog Millionaire really had me rooting for its characters in a way that most films don't pull off, and it's family friendly (as far as I can remember). Edit: okay well not family friendly but if your'e over thirteen then you can watch it with your mum just fine.

I've never seen 9.
Book of Eli isn't bad apart from all the christian preachiness.
Hurt Locker is alright but not as good as Black Hawk Down.

I liked the Book of Eli because it featured a Heidelberg letterpress printing press in action. I'm glad it wasn't about saving the last copy of Final Fantasy or something kewl and teh epic, because it wouldn't have featured that Rolls Royce of printing presses.

Give the Book of Eli a miss, it's rubbish if you're expecting anything other than really cheesy, fake action sequences in a grim apocalyptic setting (which is too serious for the plot). I didn't love the preaching, either.

Watch District 9.

Platoon maybe? Although I think that you should go for something a little less violent.

District 9 perhaps.

Seven Pounds with Will Smith and Rosia Dawson. Again I love the letterpresses, and I'm associated with the museum in Carson, CA which provides the equipment and training for movies that have print shop scenes.....FWIW.
Seven Pounds has a pretty good story to boot...

V for Vendetta

 Natalie Portman

[censored] no. Add extra emphasis to that first word, since I swear only rarely.

Having read the book, I was unable to get through the movie. They changed very important stuff, which was definitely detrimental. I can start listing things, if you like.

http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/9781845762278/V-for-Vendetta instead, its a way better use of one's time and money .

I wouldn't watch In Bruges with my mom.

German language with subtitles: Run Lola Run.
Romantic / travel: Before Sunset.
Post apocalyptic Sci-Fi Dystopia: Logan's Run.
Fantasy / comedy: Time Bandits.
Modern action: The Bourne Identity and its sequels.

More films:

Watched Mirrormask at 02:00 this morning (insomnia :(), and it was good. Surrealistic and deep, it covers a variety of topics and themes without bashing your head in about any of them.

I suppose Dog Soldiers is getting kinda old now, but it still stands out as one of the best werewolf movies, in my mind. Its genre is more action than gore.

Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels is also old now, though it has not lost its shine, either. Its a tale of things going bad, then worse, then... I won't ruin it for you :). It lives up to the reputation of the British film industry.

OK....5c3j9r7....a movie to watch with mum.......http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Spitfire_Grill.
You can't go wrong with that one....made in 1996 so you might have to look for it.....
It's my understanding that the accent of one of the leading actresses (and others) is a fairly genuine representation of a Maine, USA regional accent...where the movie is suppose to have taken place.
This is a very good movie in every respect and absolutely nothing that would be considered objectionable to most gentle hearts and kind people.

House of Flying Daggers...

Basically an Eastern Romeo and Juliet, but with martial arts and awesomeness.

Versus (preferably ultimate extended edition)

It's a Japanese movie with crazy action and humor. Everybody in the movie is like a badass (including zombies) with some parts of the movie more serious than others. I only like it in Japanese with subs and it's great for a lower budget movie.

District 9 was the biggest disappointment of the year for me. Don't go in expecting too much and you should like it. Same with Book of Eli and Hurt Locker.

The movie Lo http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1047490/

Its one of those movies that's "awesomely terrible." If you like a 'concept' film its tops - its shot entirely in one room, inside of a small, demonic pentagram that the protagonist cannot leave or the demon he has conjured will consume him. :obliviongate:

I also always recommend Battlefield Earth, which is awesome in its terribleness. Its probably the worst movie ever made, which in my opinion, makes it worth seeing at least once ;)

EDIT: I'll throw in Black Swan too. That one's just really good.
