Good news, bad news, and crashing

Allright, so I got my memory crashing bugs pretty much squashed. Hooray!

I seem to be encountering some bugs that have to do with the thieves guild, and that I think are tied to scripts. The first bug I encountered was when I was attempting to plant the bust of the elven chick in the dark elf girl's bedroom. Since my sneak was low, she'd wake up every time, which wouldnt be a problem except that as soon as she woke up, my game crashed. I used console commands to finish that part of the quest, and when Lex went in there, and I followed him, the game didn't crash. (I was also having a problem with Reneers Guard Overhaul, which was causing wonky guard behavior, since the mod was turning guard behavior on and off like a 3 year old with a light switch. This has been fixed).

I thought I was done with that bug until I got to Leyawiin and stole Alessia Caro's super-secret decoder ring. Now, at around 5am the next day, the game crashes. I'll also try loading an older save game and seeing if it crashes at 5am without stealing the ring and I'll post here with results. Here's my load order.

Edit 1: Just confirmed, the crash happens at exactly 5AM
Edit 2: The crash happens whether I steal the ring or not, one more thing to check
Edit 3: Crash happens even without talking to Amusei
Edit 4: Crash seems to happen regardless of my location. 5AM. on 3 Heartfire 3E433
Edit 5: also using Wrye Bash 283, OBSE 0018, OSR (no frame smoothing), OCP, and Streamline (no streamsight or streamsmooth).

I believe it has something to do with UL Dark Forest, bad scripts or something.

Disabling the dark forest did the trick. So is there no way to keep the dark forest and not keep the bug?

It looks like updating Shining Creatures should fix the problem; or, at least, that is what I read skimming one of those linked threads.

You need to update Dark Forest to the current version, although that will be getting updated again shortly because of yet another scripting bug in it that was just discovered recently.

You need to update Dark Forest to the current version, although that will be getting updated again shortly because of yet another scripting bug in it that was just discovered recently.

Wasn't Dark forest like the First UL?? Gota love it tho still being worked on ...

I love it even with it not being worked on, but it is definitely nice to hear that improvements are still being made. I will, of course, look forward to it and any other UL updates.

So I'm running a main quest delayed start, and Let's Talk from Oblivifall. I mention this because when i got to Castle Seaview to go and claim it, none of the guards has anything to say, which means that they aren't triggered to say anything (possibly due to non-started main quest), or that Let's Talk has somehow overridden their lines (unlikely). Does anyone know what's going on?

If you have identified the Oblivifall mod as the culprit, post in the Oblivifall thread. Whenever you have a problem related to a specific mod, post in that mod's thread.

that's the thing though, I'm not really sure. I'm pretty sure that Let's Talk is more about adding than replacing, I just wanted to inform anyone who might be able to help me of the possibilities.

I just don't have a good way of testing without either starting the main quest (involves a half-hour silly dungeon) or removing a bunch of mods (inviting instability, and requiring me to rebuild my bash patch 40 times).

If you suspect the mod, post in that mods thread. The problem is related to what that mod changes even if it does not seem to be an explicit change by the mod. Do not take the descriptions so literally, the stuff on the hood is often more complex than features of mods that grab their users' attention.

bumping my own personal bug thread. Using the load order above, is there anything that would cause me to crash upon loading any of the cells near Chorrol? I've got a savegame right next to the invisible line across which it loads some cells, and when i cross over, right after the "Loading Area" text disappears, my game crashes to desktop. Fast-travelling to anywhere in the chorrol area (I'm specifically trying to take the amulet of kings to jauffre) crashes my game. I'll just dike around with Kragnir's and thieves' guilding and whatever until the problem gets fixed or goes away. Thanks, as usual, for your patient assistance.

Make sure you rerun TES4LODGen after changing your load order. http://sites.google.com/site/oblivionpoinfo/runoblivion After that, I would focus on the mods that add distant meshes or something, check the installations over. I'm afraid you caught me on my way to bed, but hopefully this helps.

Make sure you didn't delete the chicken meshes Chorrol Hinterland needs. That would do it every time.

Odd, when I approach the Kvatch gate, i receive a quest update telling me that I've closed the gate, yet the gate is right in front of me. The guy inside the gate immediately runs towards me and thanks me for saving his life before leaving. Also, I get crashes inside the gate, on cell loading.

I had this exact same thing going on...Reloaded the Game. after talking to Salvias(SP) Dont move , wait for at least 1 min.. then approach the Gate. was the only thing that got me the Quest going right. also works when first entering the Gate. When approached talk but then don't move for a few. After this all went smooth.

staying still fixed the quest issue, but there's still crashing on load. I am running a mod that changes sigil stones. Maybe that could cause the problem, if it's loading that interior cell. I will conduct an investigation.\

Yep, looks like Sigil Stones Expanded and Extended was causing a conflict with something else in my load order, causing a crash.

which svcks, cause i liked the concept of that mod and wanted to use it.


never mind! crashes happen even with SSEE removed, which is good since it means SSEE isn't the problem, but bad because i still have problems.

might be caused by some cobl races balanced stuff that i forgot to remove from the bash patch, checking now. Wasn't the problem, got rid of it anyway though, since I was supposed to.

Edit: Updated load order to reflect full removal of cobl races balanced.

Have you been able to reduce your load order to a point where the problem no longer exists. Try removing Salmo and Shining Creatures. The crash could be caused by the interaction of multiple mods, so leave mods you try elimination out for now.

I'm just trying to go through and remove mods that would alter any of the Oblivion planes. The next mods to remove would be large far-reaching overhauls, Frans (which i am using for items) and OOO. I've disabled shining creatures and salmo but no luck. I'm not sure what else in there would cause the problem. Each time i open the gate, the spawns are different, which means that the cells are all laid out fresh (right?) so I really don't know what's going on.

The crash is on the first cell load once I get into the oblivion gate. When i load saves from inside the gate, these cells try to load, causing my game to crash right then. It might be worth mentioning that the loading box comes up, and remains for some time while my hard drive works before the game crashes. It's either trying to load something that isnt there, or its trying to load something bad.

You can not use Frans and OOO together. Suprised tomlong did not notice that..

If you want that you need to use FCOM. Else OOO is gong to be dominate over frans in your config.

Repost your current load order has well.
