Good news for Skyrim modders, mods and people who love them

Post » Fri Oct 07, 2011 3:58 pm

Hopefully there won't be a whole lot of need this time around for a script extender.

But I know you guys will do it anyway. You like the challenge :hubbahubba:

So I'm very curious how long it will take to figure out how to extend the new system.

I think you are the one who can make the best guess!

A related question: Why did you make this new scripting system from scratch, why not extend the old system? Is there a major difference at the very foundations of them?

Hopefully before the first DLC hits the PC. My only request: Please don't pimp the CK too much - I've got plans of my own :P

So basically: more freedom for modders and more ease for the ones who install it?

:disguise:

Thanks Kivan! :celebration:

Indeed...It'll be hard not to imagine a comprehensive Elder Scrolls mod without one...I can't wait to take the new mod system for a 'spin' and see what she can do...As always you guys never fail to exceed the player's expectations...Thank you for the many, many hours of diversion and entertainment...

Sounds awesome shadeMe, what you did with the CSE is delicious, especially for a scripter like me!

The second best piece of news for me is that you'll jump on Skyrim as well.

Oblivion would not for me if it weren't for Mods :P I still do Morrowind as well :o, I say Skyrim will definently last for years as Semantics really.

and my reasoning for saying single best piece of news since release is because there are no draw backs, no Negatives, No ah you can do this now, but not this.

PLUS its enhanced even further? I'm sold.

Indeed...Oblivion's modding community really put some amazing stuff out there...I love the 'Curse of Hircine', 'Lost Paladins of the Divines', and 'Fearsome Magika', as well as anything put forth by Centurion...His castle mods are absolutely exquisite...And with Skyrim's release soon, no doubt we will have yet another master stroke from Bethesda to enjoy and 'tailor' to our needs...Wonderful news!

Just to clarify for my own sake and also those like me who are not 100% understanding this...is this where you can use the script extender if you buy your copy through steam or is it where you can use the extender even if the game runs through steam (like FO:NV) but was not purchased via steam?

I'd bet the SE team will find their way in *pronto. They're awfully crafty.

Same game, only the install path is changed. The Steam EXE is a little different, but only with regards to Steam functionality. The concern was before, that things like the Script Extender would not work on Steam Games as it did not work on D2D sourced games where the EXE was encrypted. Steam worked with the team to provide an EXE that could be extended, where D2D did not.

Excellent, thanks for clarifying that. I was familiar with the difficulties D2D imposed and consciously never bought from them due to that. I was afraid steam might suffer the same ailment and was refraining from pre-ordering from them, but now I might since I know it will not interfere with modding.

Bethesda's support for the modding community is the #2 reason I keep coming back (#1 being the open worlds that they create). Great news.

I tried to use the Oblivion Script Extender, but I have a D2D copy of Shivering Isles (Retail Oblivion though), so it couldn't be installed.

Needless to say, that's the last time I'll ever use D2D.

When I saw that Tweet answer, I knew modders would be happy even if I didn't understand why. Thanks for sharing that explanation. I'll be looking forward to some great mods for Skyrim too.

Thanks anyway for not encrypting the .exe, well, and for everything else :D

I've always been curious...what do you devs think of OBSE? Have you seen (in it's Readme) the list of features that it adds? What do you think about them?

Indeed...Oblivion's modding community really put some amazing stuff out there...I love the 'Curse of Hircine', 'Lost Paladins of the Divines', and 'Fearsome Magika', as well as anything put forth by Centurion...His castle mods are absolutely exquisite...And with Skyrim's release soon, no doubt we will have yet another master stroke from Bethesda to enjoy and 'tailor' to our needs...Wonderful news!

Yes, "exquisite" is the word. I agree they're just amazing. I was in love with Castle Knightstone for a very long time, before jumping to Seaview.

Fearsome Magicka is also incredible. My http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/229639-1308736375.jpg wouldn't have been the same without it :)

And OT, thanks Kivan, Pete, and the awesome modding community overall :D

Long story made short: basically leaves the door opened for even more complex mods to be created :)

Good news for PC gamers I guess.

I'll will play Skyrim on my 360. But sometimes when I see the mods I wish xbox 360 players could use them aswell.

Like, maybe not make it or something but only download mods. That would be so awesome! :')
