Just want to point out in this article Bethesda has mentioned balance changes, which we will eventually see most likely in Januray. So huzzah. http://www.1up.com/news/next-week-skyrim-patch-reacquaints-dragons-flying-forward Now it doesn't specifically mention anything, but I'm pretty sure the gigantic backlash of the magic system is going to be getting the balancing. Perhaps also slightly nerfing some of the crafting skills from stacking so effectively.

True, but at least we can feel validated from the insufferable people saying magic didn't need a buff. We can always hope for DLC that will add in spell making. But the point is the buff is mainly what I'm interested in. As long as it takes care of 85% of my issues with magic scaling poorly at high levels I'll be fine with it. Though I have no reason to think they won't fix it 100%. Bar the missing spell crafting.

I am VERY curious to see if this ultimately means they fix some of the issues with magic. Some of the issues overall with Skills are things I'm skeptical they will change though. But if they fix some things about Destruction and some of the overall functionality(COST is big) on a number of spells then THANK YOU Bethesda!

The only thing that makes me unsympathetic about people asking for spell making(beyond the unrealistic expectations of DLC inclusion) is there might very well have been design, and realities of the industry reasons why we didn't get it.

Enchants should increase the power of spells , not reduce the cost

I can understand your second point, and hence why I'm less hesitant to "demand" for it. Though a buff to the existing spell system is in order.

A 'slight' nerf to crafting skills? It needs a major one... they totally break balance, it might as well be using the in-game console to give insane benefits or turning on god-mode. As it stands it leaves no reason to even use the daedric (godlike) artifiacts in the game due to crafting's sheer compounded over-poweredness (by stacking, grinding and upgrading effects).

Usually none of this would be an issue, the construction set was out either immediately or shortly before the two previous Elder Scrolls releases and I would just crack it open and fix whatever seemed inane and un-balanced myself.

At this point I treat those three skills as cheating and disregard it like I do tilde. Eagerly awaiting january when I can take a proper whack at re-balancing the game.

Given that the next TES game will be on a new generation of consoles. I'm putting my hopes for a spell making system heavily into that game. No certainties of course on that but in theory the increased hardware capabilities shouldn't hurt the chances. Never really cared for the old game's systems of spell making though as for the most part they boiled down to how can I use this to break the game uses. But if they could make something with enough flexibility and functionality to work I'm sure it would make a lot of people happy.

Just need to add scaling to some spells. Shouldn't be hard.

I've downloaded some mods that have worked as an effective temporary fix, but those mods end up making destruction overpowered at low levels.

Even if they don't fix it when the mod tools come out then more elaborate magic mods can be released.

First of all, they should not nerf anything. No one is being hurt by powerful crafting skills. Getting rid of exploits is one thing, but not if the skills are functioning how they are designed to. It's your problem if you want to use all three crafting skills and create a stupidly powerful character.

Holy crap why do people complain about everything? Magic is fine. I've never had this much fun with magic in Oblivion and Morrowind combined! Destruction is amazing. Killed an elder dragon in ~10sec with a continuous blast of Lightning Storm. Only used up 1/4 of my magicka.

People just like to complain about everything. Including me, complaining about complainers.

Evidently your opinion is a small minority. Thank freaking god.

Definitely a minority, yes. In every poll I've seen created on this forum or elsewhere, usually around 80% of those who vote do so in favor of Spell Making.

Hmm, crafting skills are nerfed? Time to make 10 characters each with godlike equipment in preparation for the great nerf patch :D
Im betting some people might do that.

Pure mage seems fine on Adept difficulty. Mine is level 53 now and feels extremely strong.

EDIT: I do miss spell making and spell variety though.
