idk gameinformer is a bit more forgiving. im expecting a 7.5 from them.

also the gametrailer seems fair and accurate according to my friend who is playin it now

edit: just looked on game informer. they are actually waiting to fully review the game by waitin til its released and see how the online goes.

IGN is owned by AOL and G4TV is owned by Verizon, both are corporations and both are obviously paid by other corporations (i.e Activision) for stellar reviews. Sad sad sad.

Here you go from ve3d.com, this guys are owned by IGN (but i get the vibe from time to time they are not happy about it.

"Reviews for Splash Damage's Brink have begun to roll in now that the embargo has lifted, and they're either relatively accepting or quite negative. I was able to spend some time with the Xbox 360 version since the PC build was locked down until launch, enough time in fact that I completed all of the missions both online and offline and even managed to completely nearly all of the challenge missions as well. Brink is not a bad game by any means, but it's also not the "bestest FPS game evar!". It needs to be taken for what it is, primarily a team / co-op oriented FPS with some single player aspects layered on top.

I question the amount of time that some editors put in with the game, especially those that declare that bum rushing the enemy is always win tactic, or that defense always has the upper hand. Operatives are made to infiltrate, soldier have extra survivability and power in grenades, medics can revive the fallen and buff the living, and engineers can counter a defensive lockdown with offensive turrets and ground control on supply points. With rank unlocks considered, and the wide variety of tactics that can be applied there are many ways to counter either scenario.

None of this would've been seen however if the reviewers failed to take the time to level up, explore tactics, and play with others instead of bots. I managed to play with some writers beyond the initial media event, and for the most part they've given Brink scores in the 7-8 range. There are others though that I never ran into again after the two hour media event, whatever that means.

Pappy and I will be jumping on the PC version in the days to come, so stay tuned for that. My honest impression of Brink on the Xbox 360 version (even though I really dislike playing FPS on consoles) though is that it'd be worthy of a score somewhere around 3.5 to 4/5 stars. Take it for what you will, and we'll follow up more after some hands-on PC time. Anyways, on to the roundup!"

This is the kind of review I've been looking for. DLC is inevitable from SD and the Day One patch should fix up lag and texture popping.

this game is getting murdered before final arrival I don't think they know how bad this is for the game - i think all the scores are good but some people won't give a game any slack if it doesn't score all 9's and A's hopefully the community can carry this game and build a good fan base with the patches and things like that..as the gametrailers review was talking about some muddy looking textures and glitches which is probably resolved by the patch..we'll see though.

An actual higher up game reviewer doing the smart thing? This is unheard of. At least for IGN it is.

I have a friend we were talking FaceBook about Brink and he saw the IGN review and even after he just got done saying that Brink was an Epic game and was totally going to buy it after he saw the launch trailer once he saw that IGN review he said Brink was POS and not going to buy it I even showed him all the good reviews but he said that a game with a rating of 8 was terrible and said IGN was way more informative. After that I just felt sorry for him.

The only reason I didnt put up Ign was the fact that the review was terrible.

I'm waiting on Gamespot to see what they'll give it. Admitted it'll probably be not so great. They generally follow the "reviewer" trend on games. Pretty lame.

IGN is too forgiving. They'll love a game if they liked their prequels or whatever. To me, Gamespot seems more less forgiving and Edge and GameInformer, these 2 usually give out the best reviews but then again, small time reviewers often give the best pros and cons.
