Good Super Mutants?

Post » Tue Oct 19, 2010 7:30 pm

I was on my way back from Vault 87 I think, and was oh so close to blasting away a super mutant, when I realized he wasn't red on the radar. When I talked to him he claimed he was good and some kind of an outcast, but nothing else happened. It was kind of random. I was just wondering if you come across him again? Or if he is supposed to be part of a quest? Because it was really pointless if he's not.

His name is Fawkes and he is a great companion (if not then it's probably a bug).

Are you there on the main quest or just went to Vault 87?

That may have been Uncle Leo. (if inside the vault it was Fawkes who you can recruit as a companion if your character's karma is good)

But Uncle Leo is a pacifist Super Mutant.

That's not pointless, do you think the world revolves around your character? :)

He's a Super Mutant that rejects violence. I think that's very admirable.

You might meet him again. But since he won't use violence, he may just get killed in the wasteland. But at least he'll hold to his principles! That takes courage.

Sorry I miss read it, if it's on the way back then it will be Uncle Leo, not Fawkes.

It was a random encounter. The only two good mutants in the game are Fawkes and Leo. The rest are there for blasting.

Or punching, which I personally think is more fun than shooting them, or sneaking up on and listening to, which is also fun to do.

I met him for the first time after numerous playthroughs somewhere around Arefu. I killed him.

I kinda felt bad about it for a minute, but then I remembered killing his less-than-reserved peers, then just shrugged it off.

There are two friendly Super Mutants: Fawkes and Uncle Leo

Fawkes is a Super Mutant prisoner in the vault where you have to find the GECK, and if you free him he offers to retrieve the GECK for you and can later join you as a companion, but you need Good Karma to recruit him. Fawkes also appears to be some sort of genius who taught himself to speak properly using a computer in his cell.

Uncle Leo is a Super Mutant who decided it's wrong to kill humans and ran away from his bretheren who would have killed him being traitor, so he wonders the Wasteland not sure what to do with his life as he has nowhere to go.

Super Mutant A: So I was thinking...
Super Mutant B: AND?!
Super Mutant A: IT HURT!

I let them live because of that.

Uncle Leo will defend himself. I saw him squash a pack of dogs that attacked him. He used his fists. Uncle Leo like Fawkes use/used Zen Buddhism to keep from going mad. Much of what they say is from that philosophy.
