Good Warhammers?

Post » Wed Oct 21, 2009 10:41 pm

So I really love Warhammers, the reach is awesome and the damage is great, mostly though for the feeling that I actually smashed their skulls. Anyway, I'm stuck with an iron one and I'm not exactly sure where to find an upgrade. When I made my bow character I was told that the fort west of the IC had a Fine Steel Bow, and it did. Any places like that with a nice Warhammer?

I don't know if there is a pre placed Warhammer. But Bandits favor Blunt weapons. At later levels, bandits will have good Warhammers, and at level 20, Daedric Warhammer, which is the best kind of blunt weapon in terms of damage.
In short, Kill bandits.

Bandits and Minotaur Lords will always carry leveled War Hammers on their bodies. If you're only level 2 the best possible war hammer you'll get won't be very good. Steel I believe. I think you can get Volendrung at level 1 but I may be mistaken. But there are better hammers in the game. Just keep leveling up and going to bandit camps.

go to the Market District and talk to Jensine about THorinir.

Follow that questline untill you reach the tomb at the end (itll be very very obvious) then check behind the coffins for a weapon called "Calebs Grimm Retort" or something similar to that. At level 2 its probably the most effective blunt your going to get, and its a unique looking weapon too.

You mean "Thoronir"? - That brings me to a question: Can you talk to NPCs about an arbitrary topic?

It's a good mace, but it's not a warhammer and it's magic so he'll need armorer at 50 to repair it.

There's a silver warhammer on a dead goblin in a barrel in the bottom of a cave not far from Bruma. You fall through a hole, land near it, then have to fight your way back out. Don't remember the name, anyone recognize the place? Edit: It's Toadstool Hollow.

You can get a steel warhammer from Jauffre by delivering the amulet and asking for Assistance.

In general there aren't as many good/special blunt weapons available as there are blades.

There are two unbelievably sweet war hammers in the Shivering Isles. I tell you man, sweet. They will be the best quality at level 30, iirc. Both are found during the main quest there. One guaranteed for sure, the other, when you enter a particular room, the game checks whether your blade or blunt skill is higher, and the weapon you receive will be either a hammer or a claymore.

Also anyone care to explain enchanting stuff to me? I'm in the mages guild, I think you have to be?

Can I make a weapon or shield with Fortify Strength or Fortify Endurance? And If so Is that permanent or just when I hit them?

Yes you must be a member of the mages guild (unless your using certain plug-ins.) You have to get guild recommendations from all of the mages guild halls in cyrodiil. Go to all of the towns around the map and do a quest for each of the guild hall leaders. Once you get recommendations from each guild leader you can get access to the arcane university in the IC where you can enchant items. Weapons can only be enchanted with "on strike" enchantments and armor/clothes can only be enchanted with permanent "constant effect" enchantments. You need to have a soul gem that is filled with a soul to do the enchanting. Just cast soul trap on an enemy and kill them while they're under it's affects and the soul will fill any empty soul gems in your inventory. Higher level soulgems are required to trap the souls of higher level monsters. The stronger the soul your using the more powerful enchantment you can place on an item. Humanoid NPCs can only be soultrapped with black soulgems, which are generaly harder to find than normal soulgems.

I dont mess with enchantments a whole lot, so I might be wrong about this, but I think that in order to enchant an effect you have to have a spell in your book with that effect.

For example, if none of your spells have a fortify fatigue effect, I dont think you can enchant a robe with fortify fatigue.

I know this is true when spell making.

I read on the wiki (I think I read it right) that because I'm an orc I automatically get the ability to enchant things with fortify strength and endurance. So that will be helpful.

It's not just "in your book" - you have to have a high enough level to cast it. E.g. Chameleon is a Journeyman spell, so you can't cast or enchant with it until you're a Journeyman in Illusion. You can buy it whenever you have the gold. If you can cast it because you have a skill boost from equipment or a spell, you can enchant with it as well, so it's possible to enchant equipment that you couldn't otherwise make, and then take off the other item that gave you the boost, or let the spell expire.

The best warhammer in the game is in the shivering isles. I know that the highest level version of it is the best possible in the game, but I am not sure how the lower level versions are. I'm sure they will be pretty good though. I don't know how to do the spoiler box thing :( so i'll write SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!: it is the amber warhammer from the antidopean (probably wrong spelling) hammer quest

Don't worry a lot about enchanting. You can find some really good warhammers in the game already enchanted for you. Many enemies carry enchanted ones randomly. Good examples are Dremora Lords and Xivilai in high level Oblivion Gates, and Bandit Ringleaders.

You might consider Volendrung (reward for Malacath Daedric Shrine quest). You have to be level 10 or above.

Volendrung has the same damage as a dwarven warhammer. What is quite unique about it is that it has a paralize x 3 seconds enchantment - you cannot enchant your own stuff with paralize either via altar or sigil stone. Once you knockem down with this hammer, they ain't gettin up again.

A drawback is that it only has 16 charges. Oh yeah, and it weighs 60.

Yea I don't think I'm going to be using enchanted weapons. They just run out too fast. Unless, do you have to use "on strike" enchantments or can you use "constant effects" on them?

You can't use constant effects on weapons.

The most practical way to keep a weapon charged is to have a 1-2 second soul trap effect on the weapon along with your desired damage type effects and carry Azura's Star.

My elf runs with a self-enchanted bow that has a couple damage type effects and a 1 second soul trap. The weapon has only 21 charges, but Azura's Star does a great job at keeping it topped off. It takes just a touch of planning when clearing a dungeon full of NPCs since Azura's Star can't grab them.

When, on other characters, I have used an enchanted weapon found in game that didn't have soul trap on it, we just started most fights with a a custom touch spell: Weakness to magic 100 + Soul trap -- both for 10 seconds. The spell doubled the magic damage of the weapon and filled up Azura's Star.

It's easily done at the enchanting altar, in the University. Just put several different spell effects on the weapon. It has to be done at the one time; you can't go back and "add" enchantments later.
