Good Website to Download Mods

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 2:58 am

Was wondering if someone could direct me to a good, safe downloading site for mods in Skyrim? I'm getting the PC version today, and have never really experimented with or used mods in the past. Thanks in advance.

Many thanks CK :)

Are they easy to install? Is there some sort of auto install or do I need to enter them manually?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm noobish to mods.

<_<

I think the OP is capable of copy+paste, or typing it in to the address bar. I gave him the best site, didn't forget anything.

Many thanks CK :)

I believe you can only manually install at the moment, though I'm playing on console this time around so I'm not 100% sure.
They are easy to install though, I believe the Nexus has a page with directions and most mods should also come with a readme that has instructions.

Every mod is different and they all have instructions on how to install/unistall.

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/content/modmanager/

When using the site, just click the green button saying to download with the manager, then simply activate it and go.

Hopefully mod makers have learnt their lesson from Oblivion about trying to keep things ordered.

Jt4ever2002 there a program on the site called "Nexus Mod Manager" download that and you can use that to install and uninstall any mods you DL from the site, you can even use the DL via manager to get them (if theres a mod not on site you can use the Install from file option).

Edit BTW it also works for Oblivion and the two Fallout games as well.

Im a newb modder as well, started in morrowind because I found it so easy in elderscrolls. Most modders make mods which all you have to do is drag files into a data folder then tick it off in the data files menu when you start up skyrim (i think the game automatically checks them for you though). Once the creation kit comes out in january, I also would expect to see self installing mods as well but those are more rare since its easy for us just to drag a folder. Overall most mods are easy to install though there are some that may require more complex measures, like a mod installing/management program depending on the mods complexity. I avoid those since they are usually things which change my game too much or are not what im looking for in a mod.

If you are a bit fearful like I was at first, start with a small mod that adds something small or changes something very small to your game, like an armor retexture or maybe a new type of weapon. Once you do one you will start to get addicted and start hunting down mods. For now the mods are very iffy, since many (although they are doing wonderful work without it) are using other programs and not the skyrim creation kit. I myself am using the less blocky faces mod and a mod that modifies my solitude home to add a smelter, grindstone, tanning rack and anvil.

Go mod my friend and enjoy! Just be wary and READ USER COMMENTS and VIEW SCREENSHOTS are my 2 pieces of advice before altering skyrim to make sure you are doing it justice.

Bear in mind the development kit hasn't been released yet. So 90% of mods won't actually be out yet, because we have no means to make them. You'll mainly see texture and mesh replacers right now.
