Goodbye Killzone, Hello Brink

The shotgun is a weapon in the hands of a true master. Turn a corner, take cover, blindfire at the guy chasing you, gibs.

Damn i dont know what to think about Brink. I think i'm gonna have to play a demo or something to see if its actually good. From the videos it doesn't look as good as KZ2 IMO... but idk maybe its good...

To each his own, I'd say as long as you give it a try you'll probably like what you see.

I try too, yet they tend to not listen (and sending links is easily ignored) so I'll just have to wait for them to stop by and then make them sit and watch a few. Conversion shouldn't take more than one video in all reality, the (albeit fake) cinematic trailer.

Funny, when I'm trying to sway people, i usually show them "The Dawn of SMART" first. If you show that to a veteran FPS player, its enough to pique their interest. After that, you can show them some gameplay, or the customization, or the level up system, or tell them about how its a objective and team based strategy game, but I have yet to have any of my FPS friends not interested after seeing SMART.

I think SMART will sway at least one right away, he an I have always worked well as a team so Brink will really interest him. The rest of my friends however will probably stick to Reach and CoD just because they are so invested in it. I predict it to be like Shadow Run, where we all played it for awhile and then they slowly went back to the games they had played before.

I mention the cinematic trailer because I'm a bit more of a graphics [censored] than they are, so to me it was engrossing, especially when the in game graphics were just as detailed.

I'm curious to see how Brink's shotty fares (besides the video already available).

I'm slightly concerned about using a shotgun with a medium body, the automatic weapons in the videos we've seen had fairly fast kill times, and the one video we saw of a pump action shotgun didn't seem noticably faster than an assault rifle, especially considering the range disadvantage of the shotgun... Eh, I'll just roll heavy with an auto shotgun if pump action seems UP.

Shadowrun was just...ughh. It felt like it was bogged down with the money system and the different races. Brink seems more streamlined, sticking to only three different body types that only have minor differences, instead of the four or five races Shadowrun had that seemed to have random differences.

I think it's likely to happen often don't you agree? At first it's a novelty, something new, and then the games they were already hooked on call them back. But it is still sales though :unsure2:

With Brink beating out Killzone 3 at the Eurogamer Expo, the title of this thread gains all the more credibility.

+1, a game without a public beta is going to have glaring imbalances and myraid of bugs, not to mention SD delayed Brink till the Spring so we have plenty of time for one.

Exactly and with the SMART system in place I am sure there will be plenty of glitches they have missed to get off maps are get placed you should not be. I really do not understand how they expect us to believe that a beta is not needed when it definitely is. They can only spot so much as they developed the game with a certain way of playing it in mind. The public wont play it that way and there will be alot of people trying to find cheap ways to look better then other players by using glitches, bugs or imbalances. Releasing a beta is something that would only help polish the game.

^^

And that's why I wanted a beta yesterday. In my opinion, public betas > private betas since there are more playtesters and therefore more chances to find exploits that can be fixed before the release date.

I don't see how a group of people who are experienced FPS players and programmers in their own right would have trouble rooting out most, if not all, problems after 12-18 months of testing. There are also people who are trained to look for bugs, glitches, and exploits, and know how to recognize possible issues. There is a lot more testing going on than an average game. Also, there IS a beta going on, a closed beta. Just because random members of the community aren't able to play doesn't mean that the beta testing will be any less effective.

Programming SMART was one of the very first things they did, and that started a minimum of about 4 years ago. They went through 4-5 stages of prototyping just to figure out the technical issues. They then designed every single piece of the environments with SMART in mind, not including anything that didn't interact with smart the way it should. This is very different from most games, in which movement is basic, and most objects that are put in are of very simple design, just being intended to offer cover or provide a more realistic environment. I don't expect to see many problems with it.

Fine, I'll come clean. I just want some Brink gameplay under my belt before the Spring. It's just so far away...

Hello buddy :)

HI all. I decided to join here as well.

Kz3 is barely acceptable as a beta, and I dont think there will be a good game out of that I 've seen already.

Brink seems to be quite interesting

true, but public beta are known to be used for server stress test, and to know how community will react to specific thing which could/ could not be tweaked , changed.

I wouldnt mind Brink public beta, or at least beta demo, like in case of Bc2.

For many things that they might not be sure to leave changed or not, it seems like they letting you toggle it with room or server settings.

A decent public beta is good. But most players still want a beta to play the game before release to see if they want it or not.

I hope they release Brink for the largest community. If more PC users are interested in the Brink beta then Xbox or Playstation, let them. If a console leads in an interest poll, they should receive the beta. That way Splash can stress test their servers and receive the most, and therefore most accurate, data.

Oh I'm sure more PC players are interested. Over here in 360 land just about everyone is beating their meat to Black Ops

Well, SD has pretty good standing among PC gamers that know of them, but this will be the first game they make with plans to put it on a console, so that probably factors in too.

Pulls back hood to reveal..... Cheezitschrist!!! Yes, indeed the gang is all here..... where we belong since our previous territory (KZ.com) has been overrun with immature COD [censored], which should serve as a warning to all game developers including SD, especially SD.

It just makes me sick to my stomach what has happened with KZ3..... so let's let GGs mistake of trying to appeal to the casual COD gamer serve as a lesson to prevent the same tragedy from happening with Brink!!!

All hail KZ2 and it's true spiritual successor!
