Goodbye Killzone, Hello Brink

Post » Wed Apr 14, 2010 8:48 am

true, but public beta are known to be used for server stress test, and to know how community will react to specific thing which could/ could not be tweaked , changed.

I wouldnt mind Brink public beta, or at least beta demo, like in case of Bc2.

imo it should have a private beta so as not to bombard the devs with opinions from several thousand people a public beta really should just be for stress testing and the remaining few bugs

I want a public beta, but I have a tiny phobic-centered screaming noise in the back of my head that tells me it could end up with another six months of tweaking, AND I DON'T WANT THAT! *sniffle*

I'd be happy with a demo rather than a beta.

I don't know the difference. Can someone explain?

Beta is normally an unfinished version of the game used for testing purposes, most games go through 4 stages; Pre-alpha, Alpha, Beta and Gold. Gold is the final version that is released, demo's are normally based on the Gold.

This is soooo 2008, when betas were still for testing; unlike now where a beta is a time-, but not content-limited demo.

Also there is usually Pre-Alpha (engine testing), Alpha (internal testing), Closed Internal Beta, Closed Public Beta, Open Public Beta (aka Demo).

They don't need a public beta but I would like to see a demo around the time Killzone 3 comes out. I think that would be a smart move (no pun intended) on SDs behalf as a call to Killzone fans to switch franchises.

Normally that'd be a good idea. The problem is that Brink will probably come out a few weeks later so IMO, it wouldnt be worth it.

I too have left the fail that is KZ3.

Except I'm not pre ordering brink until theirs a beta/demo out.

And I'm not buying it unless someone I know can confirm the awsomeness that is its multiplayer.

I pre orderd helghast edition for KZ3, and pretty much wasted 120 dollars.

Anyway, I learned of this game from Playing Fall out NV, and it looks like a new generation of FPS's, I hope the company pulls through.

Can't you just cancel your preorder?

News down the pipeline confirms that the devs at GG are working on fixing all the relevant issues in the beta, including my biggest concern with the lack of recoil and strong aim assist when ADS. I can't say how relieved I am to hear this news and although there will be things I miss from KZ2, Just knowing that they are un-noobifying the ADS puts a huuuge weight off my shoulders. So now I'm looking forward to both games! Life is good.

by "fixing all the relevant issues in the beta" I assume you mean "they realized that they were pissing off all of the long-time fans"

problem is , within the whole GG attitude. You'll never know what they mean, are they " tweaking" anything in the right direction, etc. They might fix ADS auto aim, yet strong game mechanics behind ads-ing everyone everytime might stay intact.

They know the spawn zone concept( similar idea like in brink- but here they are open automathically, with undestructible bots, where in kz3 is just bare camping- zones working like "capture and hold " areas) is totally flawed, when one team taking all zones opponents are screwed big time- how they gonna fix it? By adding more zones? That Wont change much.

Generally - GG reminds me bunch of economy specialist from one South Park episodes. Kid getting to the secret chamber , where bankers and wall street folks dwell, just to see they all using vodoo - chicken ritual to predict economic changes- where chicken will fall after decapitation, appropriate to this decision will be made- green square on the floor- bail out, red square- selling out, etc.

For me GG doing games based on some voodoo mumbo-jumbo- there is no consistent line of games identity, and argumentation behind is just " naive science".

I am quite hyped for Brink more than for kz3, as first offer at least willingness to fight spawn camping, put the weight behind objectives, and squad cooperation( in all these fields, ironically kz2 was top of the top)

I meant kids in a generic term, not specifically referencing kids.

Even though it's kinda scary how many (presumably) 13y olds scream themselves through consoles online-multiplayer.

I don't know where they come from though. When I played FPS as a thirteen year old guy, I tried to be as mature as possible. For some reason they try to be the opposite nowadays.

First, I recognize your long standing membership @ killzone.com so Kudos for that.

The TSPs are a problem because the respawn times are so fast compared to how long it takes to neutralize a command post. They are going to fix this problem so that they are easier to take over, thus making the flow of the battle more balanced. GG have said that the improved version of the beta that they have in-house plays out much better than the beta we know. I believe that they will improve on almost all the problems thus far, by how much IDK but I am going to remain cautiously optimistic, leaning more towards a renewed excitement for KZ3!
