Goodbye trees, you shall be missed :(

Post » Tue Nov 18, 2008 1:49 pm

Does anybody else here feel kinda sad that we are moving from a real jungle to a concrete one? Im not saying the city ideas rubbish but i just loved hidding in the bushes a foot from a korean and then killing him by throwing a turtle, crab or parrot at him. Ahh good times, but meh, ill just play through cry 1 again. Oh and the sharks, nobody can forget the sharks!! :P

Yeah, it's sad to say goodbye to it.

But you know, I'm not so sure, anyone can simply covert the files from Crysis 1 into Crysis 2. I mean, in most cases, the file format we use to view levels in .cry, so I can assume we have a chance to return to the jungle, probably not in a while unless somebody is dedicated to get it back.

I agree, I'll miss the trees, but you never know the game may be largely set in central park, I hope it is. I'm afraid that it'll end up being linear and generic form the most recent tailor though, it looked but, but not unique

Yeah, maybe. But it would be typical of another game company stopping that from happening, plus their using the 3rd cryeng so i dont think it would be that simple :(

True, i do think the one upside of being in a city (with the cry 3 engine) is that everthing can be destoryed, which is always fun :)

Ill never forgive crytek if I cant hide in a subway staircase, and then proceed to throw a pigeon or rat at the nearest unaware enemy.

I'm not missing the jungle one bit. Three games was enough for me. Hopefully Crytek goes back to the jungle in future releases though.

As much as I loved Crysis 1, I've been wanting so much to make a city-based mod. I know it's *possible* with Crysis 1 and has been done, but the ones that have been done were terrible looking.

So, I'm very excited for Crysis 2 and what CryEngine 3 will bring.

Also, I imagine it would be possible to come back to the jungle because, remember the earlier tech demos for CryEngine3? They showed jungles being played on Xbox and PS3.

The ability should be in there, maybe not without mods or anything, but it's in there.

Yea, and the frogs also, I loved the way you could lob em at some wall and they just slowly bounced back to you, better yet, throw them up, they like the energizer bunny, they just keep going and going and going, I even got three at once close together, and just blew them up, lmao. >>>loves to bow stuff up.:D

What about the turtle?

They were more bigger victims than the chickens. :(

If we have an editor I'll probably make my own maps with trees and animals and stuff (assuming the animals are included in the editor, and if there aren't many trees, there will be some modeling to do but it will happen)

Well i am sure ppl will make lots of maps with lots of trees on CE3 so i would not worry about lack of nature.
And concrete jungle is good change, Crytek has made 2 very successful games in row in jungle environment, it was about time to try something new for a change.

Yeah, the jungle was a really great spot to show off what Cryengine 2 was capable of, though, with CE3, people will make custom maps that are as beautiful.

I've realized this:

CryEngine 2 = Based on more natural environments, although urban areas look nice, they're not really great.

CryEngine 3 = Still based in natural environments (After all, CE3 is just a big update from CE2), but now urban environments look better if you ask me.

Don't get me wrong, I think even in CE2 some building work looks great, but CE3 sort of pioneers into it better.

I'm going to miss how easy it was playing on Delta to conduct guerrilla warfare on the koreans with little worry as to being caught in stealth

Just wait for the rocket launcher that shoots chickens in CE3. ;)

Or the Scarab that shoots frogs. :D
