Ehm ... no bed, no running water, no workbench / reloading bench (maybe they're extra items, but several other locations have such features), no fridge (for storing food - RP purposes), no couch / chair, no radio ... ?
Me too, but I think it's self-explanatory somehow: why should the player move forward if the game give him everything right at the beginning? Getting a decent home right in the first hour would be counter-initiative from the gameplay's perspective, at least the current way you're feeling that Goodsprings is a temporary place in your journey. Think about it: where are you sleeping every time you start a new character? Whether it's Doc Mitchell's house, the abandoned trailer behind the store or Victor's shack, you can feel that you're just a guest, no more. Okay, it would be cool to hear that "Hey, you helped saving our little town, so here's the key of that nice shack, enjoy your stay!", but backing your potential move to Victor's home would be too much. Actually, I think the developers chose the right path to quasi pass that building to you - technically the house is not yours but as Victor went off it's not used by any more, and since it has and Old World flag (as a reference) on it anyway ...
