Google Correlate, who tried it ?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 7:24 am

In its craziness to exploit data, Google released their latest invention: http://correlate.googlelabs.com/. I have been using it on the last 2 days and it gives funny results.

Google Trends was simple: it was just giving you various trends on various queries. When you wanted to find a link between 2 queries, it was a long test of trial and errors.

Google Correlate is more than that and truly FASCINATING. Imagine you have a time serie (your customers complain, sales, the papers released on a particular subject, the network failure etc...). You enter your own time serie and Google Correlate will correlate it with a number of search on Google. It is as well possible to type a simple Google query or to draw a curve.

Now, time for experiment and what it suggest:
Type freedom, strongest correlation: "american flag" followed by "in war"
Type god and see the "parasite" words we are getting: "by", "in the", "height of"... It seems people have no clear ideas about god...
Type "mango" and you will have a beautiful mathematic curve correlating with "racerback", "sleeping pad" and "sleeveless"... Why ? No bloody idea...
Finally, please explain me why "Austria" correlate with "Chinese calligraphy" and "hungary" with "reproduction" ?

I will not give you answer but type: Oblivion then try Fallout. You will see what is interesting the most the players.

Nota: although hungarian women are really beautiful, I speak by experience...
