Google eyes on vampire infected NPCs

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:19 am

Playing VHBloodlines and noticed that infected NPCs have the googly eyes problem. I am using Elaborate eyes and have created a special ESP that consolidates all the races that other mods introduce to correct the normal issue - all of that works fine.

VHBloodlines does not add any new races and I have checked the entries in TES4Edit for one of the NPCs that has this problem - she was defined as a Nord.

So what I am trying to discover, is where does OB get the eye meshes when an NPC has contracted vampirism?

I have looked in the OB Meshes.bsa, but can't seem to find it or figure out how the default "Nord" eyes are changed to the Vampire ones.

Any clues on how to find this out so I can resolve the problem will be very much appreciated.

There is a vampire race. Looking at that in TES4Edit did not help? Oh, that stinks... I guess I have avoided many, many Oblivion quirks by avoiding vampirism. It is just not for me...nope, not at all...

I agree - have also avoided being a vampire - but can't avoid the plot that VHB has for its NPCs :)

Vampire eyes use vanilla eye meshes, unless edited. I'm sure Elaborate Eyes edited vampire to use EE meshes to avoid googly eye problem for vanilla races(I'm using my own edited Beautiful People, and do not have such problem either). Do you have any other mod that may affect vampires?

Yes - Underworld Vampires. I made changes to my modified version of Elaborate Eyes to use the Underworld Vampires eyes - and this works for Vampire Races.

Where are the vanilla eye meshes for Vampire Eyes? I have chnaged the Vampire Races records to use the changed eyes, but when an NPC is infected, I still get the googly eye problem.

I see. If you're using http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9131, Underworld vampire eyes texture is for vanilla eye meshes, not for EE or Ren's. Due to difference of UV mapping and textures, having googly eyes is inevitable for that case. Of course, if you want, you can convert the eye texture by using Photoshop or GIMP. And I remember some Japanese modder made a tool for quick-and-dirty converting.... Or you can pick any texture from http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5810 or http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15436.

Yes that is the one I am using. I still don't understand why it works for the vampire races and not for an infected NPC - remember, that I did modify EE so that it worked with Underworld Vampires.

If I knew what eye textures to change, I could probably get it working correctly - but I don't know what mesh is being used for an infected NPC. What I thought I could do is override the mesh so that I would get the correct mapping to take place. Any thoughts on what mesh (or where it is defined) is being used for an infected NPC?

Well, if you didn't change anything from Elaborate Eyes, they will use EE meshes and vampire eye texture for EE. Of course, changing those eye meshes(without changing texture as well) can cause googly eyes for vampire... Normally using EE alone should not make NPC vampires with vanilla races have googly eyes.

**'Underworld Vampires' changes vanilla vampire race uses its own eye texture. If you simply change EE to use its eye texture, I wouldn't surprise that you're having eye problem. The best bet is using 'Underworld Vampires' plugin as well, or make a quick-and-dirty conversion using http://www.4shared.com/file/148262261/3e632b90/EyeConv_v08.html(Requires Java and texconv.exe from DirectX SDK).

I understand what you are saying and I did point EE to the Underworld Vampire DDS - and all Vampire Races work correctly with this change. So it still comes down to where things come from when NPCs are infected.

Also, took a look at DN Vampire Eyes EB and not sure how it relates to EE - seems to override all races without any reference to EE. Not sure what the Load Order for this ESP should be, but am considering merging its changes with EE and removing Underworld Vampires. One thing I could try, is to remove the change made to my EE version and remove Underworld Vampires and see what the result is - this is probably the most logical thing to do.

DN Vampire Eyes is another eye addon, and it's for Elaborate eyes or Beautiful People(Look at those textures. You will have googly eyes with any other eye meshes). If I were you, I take one texture from DN, make vampire race use that texture if you're gonna replace vampire eye texture.

I have just been looking at the textures and I finally understand what you have been telling me all along - sorry I am so slow :)

Given that I didn't like the EE vampire texture, I have been experimenting with other EE textures and was about to try out some of the DN textures, but thought I would post here first to let you know.

Many thanks for your help and patience - very much appreciated.
