Gore Details

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 7:47 am

Gore is a part of the game, as much as some pretend that it's not. So a few details that need fixing for the upcoming fallout:

1. Shooting raiders in the chest with a 9 mm weapon causes their legs or arms to fall off (no Bloody Mess perk), never got how that works.

2. Small calliber weapons causing decapitations - silly.

3. What's up with hats? Are they glued on? I shot a guy's head off (with a mininuke) and his cowboy hat was still stuck to his head as it rolled by. Come on!

I know Fallout 4 will improve things, but just in case, I felt this had to be said.

Yep, I would like to see more of this as well.

My guess is the gore system happens by chance every time you target a body part regardless of if bloody mess is chosen or not.
Basically the bloody mess perk just adds the chance and increases it even for parts not targeted by player so you get multiple limbs for shotgun blasts.

What I would like to see is more BLOOD volume and not these random gore moments. Shoot a raider in the neck when bloody mess is on, blood sprays.
Without bloody mess, he collapses and a smaller pool of blood forms.
The only time there should me any form of dismemberment is if shots are fired from .44 caliber in a considerably short range to explosives and a Hatchet-level melee weapon at least up to super sledge and not for standard kitchen knives to shaving razors. The Lead Pipe is notorious for limb explosions. They got it right with the Golf Iron because it only causes bruises and shows the raider collapsing.

As for the hats thing, this game was made in '07 before i3 processor.

Definitely could use some improvement, if they are going for realism. It was always good for a laugh when that kind of stuff happened. Guess we will have to wait and see if anything is changed.

Meh. In this case I prefer fun over realism.

I would love if shooting someone's hat off was an intimidate factor.

Chance of them just dropping their gun and be like "Nope! Ain't fighting that guy"

This, but you can do that now by shooting the gun out of their Hand. I love how I can pistol whip people now, to many times I save people and they get snappy with me when I try to talk to them, like "WHAT!!!" Or "GET ON WITH IT" lady I'm trying to save you, don't back chat me, BAM!! Pistol to da face!

I loved the reduced gore mod for Fallout 3. Instead of a limb blowing off, I often got to see my opponent limp towards me. I thought that was way more satisfying than a random explosion of viscera. My ideal solution would be to have reduced gore as the default that could be increased through Perks like Bloody Mess. A game setting slider would be nice too. In any case, I am sure an early mod will be to reduce/remove the number of body parts flying all over the place.

That's the key, though..... I've never thought they were going for "realism", but rather for wacky, over-the-top hijinks.

I'd like it if they just added a slider to modify how wacky dismemberment, decapitation, general mutilation, and death physics are like Project Nevada does in New Vegas. I know it won't happen though.

I agree with this entirely. I would also like to see some death animations included with this. I get tired of the immediate ragdoll effect after a while.

Yeah, I really never understood their heads falling off when I'd shoot them with a rifle.

Honestly the most satisfying thing I did in-game was take Caesar's body and dump it on one of the flaming barrels. I was sad that it just sat there instead of burning up.

The violent body part explosions are supposed to be over the top and silly!

One reason I never took the Bloody Mess perk. Just became rather absurd after a while to shoot someone in the foot and then their entire body explodes. Funny in it's own way, but still.

As much as it would be nice to see some realism, I think Bethesda relishes the wacky violence of Fallout too much to bother. Oh well.

considering an ability since fallout 1 was called Bloody Mess (heck, it even had a special ending if you had it), i am pretty sure the series have always MEANT to be over the top exploding everywhere

I hope it's a lot more than just decapitations and knees exploding when hit with a 9mm this time around.

I wanna see a big hole in people's chest when I shoot them with a shotgun point blank or blow off a chunk of their head as opposed to it just flying off their neck unscathed despite being shot in the forehead with a sniper rifle.

Or just something akin to 1&2's death animations would be great also, those were so godamn satisfying.

Personally, I'm fine with the way it's been handled. There's a certain level of satisfaction and sadistic glee I get when a pistol shot causes a person to just explode. Like they just couldn't handle my awesomeness. They just can't even at that moment.

This may or may not be appropriate, but I didn't think it was worth posting a thread.

In the gunplay trailer, the two raiders the last survivor is shooting are labeled as "Raider Scum" and I laughed so damn hard.

*In imperious snotty tone* "You Raider Scum!"
I will probably say this every time I enter into battle with the Raiders.

I do hope gore gets a bit of an upgrade if I shoot someone point blank in the chest and kill them with a shotgun there torso shouldn't be in one piece lack of bloody mess perk be damned.
