Gore?

Post » Tue Apr 20, 2010 9:00 am

Well I expect more gore in Skyrim then Oblivion. Lets not forget that Oblivion was originally a T rated game at launch... so they really couldn't do much with gore even if they wanted to. However, I really don't see Skyrim trying for a T rating, because it really does limit the developers on what they can do (I was shocked Oblivion was even rated T originally to be honest). Also, unlike movies, games with lower ratings don't sell a whole lot better then M rated games. So it stands to reason the game will be M rated, and that there will be a bit more gore this time around.

How much? Well who knows. Personally I want more gore, and I want to be able to gib people with my sword... however it should be more realistic then Fallout. If I hit someone in the head with my sword and kill them, I would like to see their head come off. Same goes for their limbs. However, I don't want to shoot someone with an arrow and have them explode in a mess of blood and limbs. Fallout style gibing, with more emphasis on realism would be perfect.

I also want more lore and choping off limbs, but more realistically than in Fallout.

Most of the time gore is done really bad (and adds next to nothing to my gameplay experience)

I don't particularly care if they have it but I'd prefer that they didn't.

Not fallout style, atleast. It's beyond ridiciculous when a laser pistol cleanly cuts off the head of a human. On the other hand, something similar the energy weapons' disintegration effects could be added for spells.

fallout style - NOT (if so I hope I will be able to mod myself around that horrible gore)
normal gore - BRING IT ON!

I want to see my sword be able to impale someone. If he opens up his defense and I thrust I want to see my sword go through, maybe even follow through with a cool kick animation. I also want blood stains on my weapons and character like in Dragon Age. I like the mod in Oblivion that kept blood stains on you unless you cleaned them off.

i would like to break bones and stuff maybe cut an arm of here and there.
The ability should be based on the strenght of you and the oponent

as you can see all the weak got beat up badly.
strong enemys, shouldnt be that easy to beat/cut arm of and stuff

"Gore" won't improve the game for me, it's not why I play games like Oblivion. "Yeah, I stabbed this guy and there was blood everywhere!" "...and...?"

IMO it adds realism in immersion in game. Like I said FO style wouldn't be realistic either, but well done gore would make the game a lot better.

It may improve the game slightly but I just don't want Bethesda to spend time improving gore levels when they could be adding a unique village or NPC instead. ^_^

Your talking about two different groups of developers for the two tasks. Programmers/artist and level/quest designers...

Its not needed, but having a head getting decapitated or a spear impaling someone through the chest every now and then would be wonderful.

I would be ecstatic if gore were somewhere between fallout and oblivion. OCCASIONAL decapitations, dismemberment and impaling? Yes please. And for those who are asking: "why add gore?", or "what's the point?". Comon! Gore is just cool. The sky is blue, the grass is green, puppies are cute, gore is cool. *shrug*

Some limb chopping(Not limb exploding) would be cool. And beheading also, and blood that doesn't evaporate faster than it took to get to the ground would be nice.

Id' really really likle to see location-based gore. With dismemberment and things that is done depending both on what type of weapon you are using and where you hit someone. (IE an axe causes dismemberment, a mace causes blunt/smashing type of bone-crunching gore).

However dismemberment/gore should be something that is a random % chance, depending on your last attack as well as other things. It shouldn't happen with every-single person you fight, as that makes it too common and takes away the "oh man that was awesome" factor when it happens.

It would be nice if wounds would show up on bodies.. ie. I stab him in the arm, his displays a gash in the appropriate section. Of course, with TES mechanics by the time someone dies they'll be one big red humanoid shaped gash...

100% agree! I really hope they implement something like this. To me though, more important than actual dismemberment would be something like impact effects. Like seeing slash marks across someone after you hit them with 10 sword strikes. It just looks weird to see all this blood flying around, but then see an enemies perfectly intact white shirt with no sign of damage. If they can implement that, along with random (sparsely used) dismemberment and gore, that would be the perfect combo.

I think most people agree that gore can be a good thing, if used in moderation. Maybe have a limb be severed every 5 fights or so (or have it dependent on level). That way it is actually cool when it happens, rather than expected like in FO3. Also, like you said, it would have to be weapon specific. A mace shouldn't separate any limbs, but it could have a sick crunching sound and send the opponent crumpling into a bloody heap  Oh and none of this would apply to skeletons. They should always break into pieces when killed!

I would love to see some new combat mechanics that are very close to Mount and Blade.
Being able to pull back a sword or spear and stabbing someone in the heart or bringing a hammer above your head only to bring it down on the enemy's would make the melee combat so much more amazing and immersive.

And there was blood everywhere. I suppose anything that adds immersion must be something that won't improve the game for you. I take it you would be against a swimming animation? I guess you would just rather see your character float across the water.

I say no to dismemberment. But deep gashing wounds or slashs through clothes And skin could add slot to THE combAt experience... (to me anyway)

Oh man, that reminds me of the old PC game series Myth. They really need to make a new one! There were some maps that took place in a crater like area, and all the blood and body parts from a huge battle would flow down into the center creating an insanely gory setting. I doubt anything like that would be in Skyrim, but I would be damn happy to have another game where the bodies don't disappear after 20 seconds....
